Star Wars Battlefront 3 reportedly in development at DICE and Respawn

October 22, 2026·3 min read

EA confirms DICE and Respawn are collaborating on a project reportedly identified as Star Wars Battlefront 3, though the publisher has not announced the game.

Electronic Arts is bringing DICE and Respawn Entertainment together for an unannounced project that multiple sources have identified as a new Star Wars Battlefront game.

EA confirmed the collaboration on October 21 while outlining its future development plans. The publisher has not officially named the project, but Variety reports that multiple sources identified it as Star Wars Battlefront 3 for Lucasfilm.

EA revealed the partnership while discussing how it plans to allocate resources across its major franchises. The company said DICE and Respawn will collaborate on another project while future Battlefield games continue development.

The official announcement does not confirm that the game is Battlefront 3. No platforms, release window, gameplay details or development timeline have been announced, so the title remains based on reporting rather than a formal EA reveal.

The report follows earlier rumors about the same collaboration. Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer also said he had heard DICE and Respawn were working on Battlefront 3, although he did not provide supporting evidence.

DICE would return to Battlefront

DICE developed EA’s Star Wars Battlefront reboot in 2015 and Star Wars Battlefront II in 2017. The sequel combined large multiplayer battles with a single-player campaign covering several eras of Star Wars.

Battlefront II became controversial at launch because of its progression and loot-box systems. DICE later overhauled progression and supported the game with free updates before regular content development ended in 2020.

A third entry has remained absent since then despite continued interest in the series. Previous reporting had suggested EA passed on another Battlefront project, making the reported return notable.

Respawn already has Star Wars experience

Respawn developed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. EA has also confirmed that the next Star Wars Jedi game remains in development.

It is unclear how responsibilities would be divided between Respawn and DICE. EA has only confirmed that the studios are collaborating and has not named a lead developer.

The report arrives during wider EA restructuring

The news comes as EA restructures several of its development teams. BioWare is closing and its next Mass Effect project has been cancelled, while around 3% of EA’s global workforce is reportedly affected by wider cuts.

EA says it is concentrating resources on fewer major projects, including Battlefield, Apex Legends, Marvel’s Iron Man and the next Star Wars Jedi. For now, Star Wars Battlefront 3 remains reported rather than officially announced, but the DICE and Respawn collaboration itself is confirmed.

Star Wars: Battlefront III was the expected fourth game in the Star Wars: Battlefront series. It was in development but was stopped for unknown reasons. The game was then officially cancelled.
