Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 launches October 14

October 6, 2026·3 min read

Boltgun 2 brings back Malum Caedo, adds Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath and expands the retro FPS with branching levels.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 will launch on October 14, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Developer Auroch Digital has also confirmed that a Nintendo Switch 2 version is coming later, although it does not yet have a release date.

The sequel continues directly from 2023's Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun and retains its fast first-person combat and retro-inspired visuals. A playable PC demo is already available on Steam for anyone wanting to try the new game before launch.

Malum Caedo returns with a second playable character

Ultramarine Malum Caedo returns as one of the two playable characters in Boltgun 2. This time he is joined by Nyra Veyrath, a Sister of Battle Celestian with her own weapons, abilities and faster combat style.

Auroch Digital says adding another playable character was one of its priorities for the sequel. Players will be able to approach battles differently depending on who they choose rather than simply playing through the same combat style with another character model.

The campaign will also branch into different paths with unique levels. New environments range from towering hive cities to dense jungle swamps, expanding the locations beyond those seen in the original game.

Vashtorr is the sequel's main enemy

The new story sees Caedo and Veyrath confronting Vashtorr the Arkifane, a powerful Chaos demigod. Players will travel between worlds and destroy sources of corruption powering his daemonic machinery before eventually confronting him.

The enemy lineup is also expanding beyond the creatures fought in the first game. Bloodletters and their Juggernauts are among the new threats, while Auroch has confirmed that the sequel will feature enemies connected to all four Chaos factions.

New weapons will accompany the larger enemy roster. Familiar options such as the Chainsword and Shotgun return, but the developer is promising additional tools for dealing with the larger groups and more varied opponents.

Mick Gordon is composing music for the final boss

Auroch Digital has recruited Mick Gordon to create music for the final boss battle. Gordon is known for his work on shooters including DOOM Eternal and Wolfenstein: The New Order.

The developer revealed his involvement alongside the October release date and the first look at Vashtorr. Auroch says Gordon created a suite of music designed specifically around the antagonist and the game's final confrontation.

The wider soundtrack will continue the heavy style established by the first Boltgun. Gordon's contribution is focused on the climactic boss rather than the entire game's score.

The Switch 2 version will arrive later

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 launches October 14 on Steam, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Xbox version supports frame rates above 60fps and up to 120fps on compatible hardware, while the PS5 edition supports DualSense vibration features.

The Nintendo Switch 2 edition will not arrive alongside those versions. Auroch Digital has only said it is coming later, with more information about its release timing still to be announced.
