Xbox Free Play Days offers six games, including two Monster Hunter RPGs
October 23, 2026·3 min read
Xbox Free Play Days offers six games, including Monster Hunter Stories, Dying Light 2 and Riders Republic, with free trials and Game Pass access.
Xbox has launched another Free Play Days promotion with six games available to try over the October 22 weekend, including Monster Hunter Stories, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin and Dying Light 2: Stay Human – Reloaded Edition.
The offer is not identical across all six games. Three require an eligible Xbox Game Pass membership, the two Monster Hunter Stories games are limited to three-hour trials, and Riders Republic is available to all Xbox players for a slightly longer period.
Three full games are available with Xbox Game Pass

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential members can play Dying Light 2: Stay Human – Reloaded Edition, Let’s Build a Zoo and Tropico 6 from October 22 through October 25. Players can download the games through their individual Xbox Store pages or the Free Play Days collection on supported consoles.
Progress and achievements earned during the promotion can be retained if players later purchase the games. Xbox is also running temporary discounts, including an 80% reduction for Dying Light 2, while Tropico 6 is 75% off and Let’s Build a Zoo has discounts covering the base game and DLC.
Both Monster Hunter Stories games get three-hour trials
Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin are available without an Xbox Game Pass membership, but they are not fully unlocked for the entire weekend. Each game instead comes with a three-hour timed trial running through October 25.
Both RPGs replace the main Monster Hunter series' real-time hunting with turn-based combat built around raising and fighting alongside monsters. The promotion arrives shortly after the Monster Hunter Stories series celebrated its 10th anniversary and ahead of further expansion for its latest entry.
Capcom is also preparing to release Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection on Xbox for PC on November 18 with Xbox Play Anywhere support. The first two games therefore give players a limited opportunity to sample the series before deciding whether to continue into its newer releases.
Riders Republic stays free through October 26

The sixth game, Ubisoft's Riders Republic, is available to all Xbox players from October 22 until October 26 with no Game Pass subscription required. Unlike the two Monster Hunter titles, Xbox describes this as a free weekend rather than a three-hour trial.
The open-world extreme sports game is currently celebrating its fifth anniversary with additional activities and Ubisoft-themed rewards. Its longer free period gives players an extra day beyond the main Free Play Days lineup to explore its cycling, snow sports and other multiplayer events.
The free access ends after the weekend
None of the six games are being given away permanently. Once their respective Free Play Days periods or timed trials expire, players will need to purchase the games or access them through an eligible subscription where available.
For most of the lineup, the important deadline is Sunday, October 25. Riders Republic remains playable through October 26, while the two Monster Hunter Stories games can only be played for three hours each regardless of how early players start their trials.
