Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance Trailer Reveals New Monsters Araketa and Gundoraja
Meet Araketa and Gundoraja in Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, with Skybound Eyrie and Boost Bracer combat also revealed for the 2027 expansion.
Capcom has revealed two new monsters coming to Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, introducing the pack-hunting Bird Wyvern Araketa and a storm-controlling Elder Dragon named Gundoraja.
Both monsters appeared in a new trailer shown during PlayStation's September State of Play. The footage also provided a closer look at Skybound Eyrie, the new region where hunters will encounter them when the expansion launches in 2027.
Araketa attacks from the skies in coordinated packs

Araketa is a newly discovered Bird Wyvern capable of using powerful air currents from its wings to travel across long distances at high speed.
The monster does not always hunt alone. Araketa can move in packs, with leaders using distinctive calls to command and coordinate the other members. That gives hunters more than a single large target to track when a group is working together.
Araketa will be encountered in Skybound Eyrie, a region floating above the clouds with open landscapes, ancient ruins, and new endemic life. Players will also get an opportunity to fight the monster before Ascendance launches. Capcom is bringing a playable demo to Tokyo Game Show 2026 that includes an Araketa hunt.
Gundoraja emerges from the storms above Skybound Eyrie

The second major reveal is Gundoraja, a new Elder Dragon capable of controlling storm clouds. Capcom showed the monster emerging from the dark clouds surrounding Skybound Eyrie, placing it among the new Elder Dragon threats hunters will investigate in the expansion.
The Expedition is also investigating wider ecological disturbances that seem to have begun after Lao-Shan Lung arrives in the Forbidden Lands. Ascendance's story later moves forward several years, with Guardian Monster habitats expanding and more Elder Dragons beginning to appear.
Skybound Eyrie becomes accessible after the mist above Wyveria clears, opening another unexplored region for the Expedition Team. An older Nata returns as a full member of the team and helps guide hunters into the new area alongside his Wudwud partner Bangard.
Hunters will have new Boost Actions against Ascendance's monsters
Ascendance is also expanding combat through the Boost Bracer, a new piece of equipment connected to the Hunter's Slinger. Activating the Bracer temporarily strengthens the Hunter and enhances characteristics unique to each of the game's 14 weapon types. Hunters can use Boost Driver to create an opening before taking advantage of the temporary Boost state.
Capcom plans to reveal more Boost Actions and other weapon mechanics closer to release. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance launches in 2027 and requires the base game. Players will need to reach Hunter Rank 40 and complete "Awaking From a Dream" before beginning the expansion and entering Master Rank.
