Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a first-person survival horror game that follows Ethan Winters as he searches for his missing wife, Mia, at an abandoned plantation in rural Louisiana. Soon after arriving, Ethan becomes trapped with the Baker family and discovers that the estate is tied to a biological threat. Exploration takes place across the main house, old house, testing areas, and surrounding property, with players searching for keys, solving environmental puzzles, and gradually opening new routes. The first-person perspective places greater emphasis on close-range exploration and horror than previous mainline Resident Evil games. Combat uses handguns, shotguns, explosives, and other weapons, but ammunition and healing supplies are limited enough that avoiding enemies can be important. Players collect chemicals and other materials to craft ammunition, medicine, and useful items, while storage boxes allow inventory to be managed between encounters. Block timing reduces incoming damage during close attacks, and some enemies require careful targeting to conserve resources. The PlayStation 4 version also supports the full campaign in PlayStation VR, allowing the main story to be played from start to finish in virtual reality.
