How KRÜ Blaze fought back to win Game Changers 2026
KRÜ Blaze fought through four elimination series to win the 2026 VALORANT Game Changers Championship, defeating Gentle Mates 3-2 in São Paulo.
Five days before winning the 2026 VALORANT Game Changers Championship, KRÜ Blaze were one defeat away from elimination. Shopify Rebellion Gold had swept them into the lower bracket, leaving the LATAM team with no room for another loss.
KRÜ responded with four consecutive series wins, surviving another difficult start against Shopify before reaching the grand final in São Paulo on November 1. There, Gentle Mates pushed them to five maps and repeatedly overturned their leads. KRÜ eventually won 3-2, becoming the first LATAM team to claim the Game Changers world title.
Shopify exposed a map KRÜ could afford to drop

KRÜ opened the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Gen.G GC, but Shopify Rebellion Gold quickly exposed weaknesses in their map pool. On Lotus, KRÜ's own pick, Shopify repeatedly attacked C against their Chamber and double-initiator setup. Dodonut collected 16 kills in the opening half, helping Shopify build an 8-4 lead before closing the map 13-7.
Sunset went even worse. Shopify's Sage-Chamber composition helped them race to an 8-1 lead, forcing KRÜ to use both timeouts before halftime. Shopify then won both pistol rounds and secured a comfortable 13-6 victory. Dodonut finished the series with 11 opening kills, repeatedly giving Shopify the advantage before KRÜ could establish themselves.
Facing defending champions Team Liquid Brazil in the lower bracket, KRÜ changed their approach. They banned Sunset and selected Summit, although another slow start left them trailing 8-4 at halftime. This time, however, KRÜ recovered, winning nine of the next ten rounds to take the map 13-9. A convincing 13-6 victory on Haven completed the sweep.
MIBR presented another difficult test. KRÜ removed Lotus but returned to Sunset, where their Sage-Chamber setup proved far more effective. Quick defensive retakes helped them overcome a 7-5 deficit and win 13-11. Abyss was just as close, with KRÜ securing another 13-11 victory after winning the final round on an economy buy.
KRÜ survived two elimination matches without dropping a map, although both opponents put them under pressure. Their stronger second halves and adjustments between matches gave them a better chance of handling Shopify when the teams met again.
The rematch rewarded a wider map pool
KRÜ approached their rematch with Shopify differently, banning Lotus after struggling on it in their first meeting. With Shopify removing Abyss, KRÜ selected Summit and Ascent, hoping to challenge their opponents on more favorable maps.
The series still began with another 13-6 defeat on Sunset. KRÜ now lost three consecutive maps against Shopify, but Summit quickly changed the momentum. They built a 10-2 halftime lead and won 13-6, with tok1o delivering 21 kills on Chamber.
Both teams used identical compositions of Neon, Chamber, Sage, Omen and Fade, but KRÜ dominated defensively. Tok1o recorded 16 kills and six opening kills on that side alone, while Shopify's Noia struggled to make an impact. KRÜ followed up with a 13-9 victory on Shopify's Split pick, moving one map away from the grand final.
Ascent was a much closer contest. Shopify's PoniX finished with 30 kills on Sova, while KRÜ's KAY/O-Sova pairing helped contain their opponents' Neon-Phoenix setup. Neither team could establish a lasting lead, with regulation ending 12-12.
KRÜ eventually won 17-15, securing the final round after recovering from a three-against-five disadvantage on the retake. Having lost their first three maps against Shopify across the tournament, they now eliminated them in a 3-1 comeback.
Afterward, tok1o explained that the lower-bracket run, forced KRÜ to expand their playbook and try strategies they had not previously needed. The experience of surviving several elimination matches, also gave them confidence heading into the grand final.
Gentle Mates removed Summit, but Abyss remained

Gentle Mates reached the grand final unbeaten, having dropped just one map throughout the tournament. Their upper-bracket advantage gave them two bans, which they used on Lotus and Summit. KRÜ lost one of their strongest options, forcing them to find another way past the tournament favorites.
Haven offered a difficult start. KRÜ won the opening three rounds, but Gentle Mates responded with seven consecutive wins before dominating their attacking half to take the map 13-5. Their double-duelist composition gave KRÜ little room to recover.
Abyss was a different story. KRÜ returned to the double-initiator setup that worked against MIBR, pairing KAY/O and Sova with none on Jett. None took full advantage, finishing with 25 kills and nine opening kills while dying first only twice.
AntG contributed ten assists on KAY/O, while PoniX added eight on Sova. With their initiators supporting Jett's aggression, KRÜ built an 8-4 halftime lead and conceded just one more round to win 13-5.
KRÜ now found success with different compositions throughout their lower-bracket run. Their Sage-Chamber setup helped them beat MIBR on Sunset, while double initiators proved effective on Abyss. That flexibility became particularly important against Gentle Mates, who already taken Summit away from them.
Losing control never became losing the series
KRÜ came dangerously close to throwing away Sunset. After winning ten rounds on defense, they extended their lead to 12-6 and needed just one more round to take the map. Gentle Mates refused to give in, saving all six map points before berryx pulled off a remarkable one-against-four clutch to force overtime.
KRÜ struggled to break through Gentle Mates' Fade-Breach setup on attack, but found the round they needed in overtime before closing out the map on defense. The 14-12 victory put them one map away from the world title, although they nearly surrendered their biggest lead of the final.
Gentle Mates fought back on Split. After an even 6-6 first half, they took control and won 13-8 on KRÜ's own pick. The championship would now be decided on Ascent, where KRÜ narrowly survived Shopify in the lower final.
KRÜ returned to their KAY/O-Sova pairing, with none on Jett, antG on Vyse and micaela on Omen. A 7-5 halftime lead became 12-6 as they won five of the next six rounds. Gentle Mates managed to delay the celebrations twice, but their final attempt to retake B fell short. KRÜ closed Ascent 13-8 to secure the championship.
AntG led the deciding map with 21 kills and nine assists, while tok1o earned tournament MVP honors after recording a series-high 84 kills. KRÜ relied on different players throughout their comeback: PoniX delivered 30 kills against Shopify on Ascent, none dominated Abyss in the grand final, and antG stepped up when the title was on the line.
After surviving elimination, two difficult series against Shopify and a five-map final, KRÜ completed their run to the world championship.
LATAM's breakthrough came with a rebuilt roster
KRÜ competed at every previous Game Changers Championship, climbing from seventh-eighth place in 2022 to fourth in 2025. But only micaela remained from last year's roster, leaving a largely new lineup to take the organization further than ever before.
KRÜ became the first team from VALORANT's LATAM circuit to win the Game Changers Championship, following previous titles for European, North American and Brazilian teams. Their roster, featuring players from Argentina, Chile and Brazil, completed the historic run with four consecutive elimination series victories.
The team also showed how much their map pool improved throughout the tournament, winning across six different maps during that run. Summit helped them recover from the earlier Shopify defeat, Abyss brought them level against Gentle Mates, and Ascent secured both their place in the final and the championship itself.
By the grand final, even Gentle Mates' two map bans could not take away enough of KRÜ's options. The rebuilt roster found different ways to win throughout the lower bracket and finished with LATAM's first world title.
