Madden NFL 27 is officially coming to Nintendo Switch 2

June 9, 2026·3 min read
Madden NFL being on Nintendo hardware again is starting to look like a real commitment, not a one-season test. EA SPORTS has confirmed Madden NFL 27 for Nintendo Switch 2, keeping the football series on the platform after its long-awaited Nintendo comeback with Madden NFL 26.

That is important because Madden has been missing from Nintendo consoles for too long. One release could have been treated like a trial run. A second straight entry suggests EA sees Switch 2 as a serious place for its sports lineup.

Switch 2 is getting the new Madden alongside other platforms

Madden NFL 27 is planned for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. That puts Nintendo players in the main launch conversation instead of leaving them waiting for a late or uncertain version.

For Switch 2 owners, that is the real win. Madden is the kind of annual sports game that helps a console feel more complete, especially for players who want big third-party releases alongside Nintendo’s first-party games.

It also gives football fans another way to play without being locked to a TV setup. If the final version holds up, portable Madden could be a strong selling point for the new system.

EA is adding the features players expect

The Switch 2 version is expected to include HDR support, touchscreen controls, local multiplayer for up to four players, online play, and a 60 FPS performance mode.

Those details matter because sports games depend on feel. Passing, cuts, tackles, and quick reads all need to respond cleanly. A smoother performance option is one of the most important things EA can offer on Nintendo’s hardware.

Touchscreen support could also give the Switch 2 version its own small advantage if EA uses it well, especially for menus, play selection, or quick navigation.

Caleb Williams gives this year a fresh cover star

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is the cover athlete for Madden NFL 27, giving this year’s game a younger face at the center of the rollout.

EA is not only bringing Madden back to Nintendo players. It is putting the Switch 2 version into the same new-season push as the rest of the platforms.

For a franchise that skipped Nintendo hardware for years, that is an important shift.

The real test is still performance

The confirmation is good news, but players still need to see the game running properly on Switch 2. The biggest questions are performance, feature parity, online stability, and how modes like Franchise and Ultimate Team compare with other versions.

That is where EA has to prove this is more than a box-checking port. Madden NFL 27 coming to Nintendo Switch 2 is a strong sign for the platform, but the version itself has to feel good on the field.
