Grand Theft Auto V is a vast open-world action game set in Los Santos, a sprawling sun-soaked metropolis and the surrounding countryside of Blaine County. The game blends storytelling and gameplay as players repeatedly jump in and out of the lives of three lead characters: Michael, Franklin, and Trevor. Their individual stories intersect through a series of criminal jobs and large-scale heists, with players switching between them during missions and while freely exploring the world. Each character also has a unique special ability suited to driving or combat. Outside story missions, players can freely explore Southern San Andreas by car, motorcycle, boat, aircraft, or on foot. Activities include purchasing properties and vehicles, modifying cars, taking part in races and sports, hunting, and completing optional encounters and side missions. Combat combines firearms, melee attacks, cover, and vehicle-based action, while wanted levels bring increasingly aggressive police responses to criminal activity. Later versions also support both third-person and first-person perspectives, allowing players to switch viewpoints while exploring, driving, and fighting.
