Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is an open-world action-adventure game set in 1986 in Vice City, a fictional city inspired by Miami. Players control Tommy Vercetti, a former mobster sent to the city after serving 15 years in prison. When a drug deal is ambushed and both the money and merchandise disappear, Tommy must find those responsible and recover what was lost. His search gradually develops into a bid to take control of Vice City’s criminal underworld. Story missions combine driving, gunfights, chases, robberies, and other criminal activities across beaches, downtown districts, residential areas, and surrounding islands. Outside the main storyline, players can freely explore Vice City using cars, motorcycles, boats, and helicopters. Properties and businesses can be purchased around the city, with some unlocking additional missions and generating income after their objectives are completed. Optional activities include vehicle missions, street races, rampages, collectibles, and side jobs. Weapons range from melee equipment and handguns to assault rifles and explosives, while escalating wanted levels bring increasingly aggressive police responses. Radio stations provide music and talk programming that reinforce the game’s 1980s setting.
