01Overview
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is an open-world action-adventure game set in the early 1990s. After his mother is murdered, Carl “CJ” Johnson returns to Los Santos and finds his family divided and the Grove Street Families losing control of their neighborhood. His attempt to rebuild the gang draws him into a wider story of crime, corruption, betrayal, and organized crime that eventually takes him across the entire state of San Andreas. Players explore Los Santos, San Fierro, Las Venturas, and the surrounding countryside while completing missions involving driving, gunfights, robberies, chases, and gang warfare. Outside the main story, players can freely explore the state using cars, motorcycles, bicycles, boats, aircraft, and trains. CJ can improve skills such as driving, shooting, stamina, and strength through regular use, while eating and exercise affect his physical appearance. Players can purchase properties, customize vehicles, change clothes and hairstyles, recruit gang members, and fight rival gangs for control of territory. Optional activities include races, gambling, vehicle missions, collectibles, dating, and numerous side challenges spread across San Andreas.
