Grand Theft Auto IV is an open-world action-adventure game developed by Rockstar North and set in Liberty City, a fictional recreation of New York City. Players take the role of Niko Bellic, an Eastern European immigrant who arrives in America hoping to escape his past and build a new life. The game is played from a third-person perspective, with Liberty City explored on foot or using cars, motorcycles, boats, and helicopters. Story missions combine driving, shooting, chases, and criminal jobs, while a cover system, melee combat, and a wanted level determine how players handle encounters with enemies and law enforcement. Outside the main story, players can freely explore the city, complete side activities, take jobs, play minigames, and spend time with characters Niko meets during his journey. Maintaining relationships can unlock useful benefits, while some story decisions give players choices that affect later events. Niko’s mobile phone is used to receive missions, contact friends, arrange activities, and access multiplayer in versions where the original online functionality remains available. The current PC Complete Edition no longer supports the original multiplayer mode.
