007 First Light Switch 2 version delayed again to March 2027
September 23, 2026·3 min read
IO Interactive has delayed 007 First Light on Nintendo Switch 2 to March 2027 while it continues performance and optimization work.
IO Interactive has delayed the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light to March 2027 after it previously missed the game's May launch on other platforms. The studio says the additional time will be used to improve performance, with an exact release date still unannounced.
Technical producer Cristina Vega told Inven Global that the latest delay was not caused by a single unexpected technical problem. She said the team had been working under sustained pressure and needed a short break, while marketing requirements and other factors also contributed to the new window.
The Switch 2 release has moved several times

007 First Light was originally scheduled for March 27, 2026, across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. IO later delayed the entire game to May 27 to allow more time for polish.
The Switch 2 version was then separated from the other releases in April and moved to a summer window. By August, IO was targeting later in 2026 before shifting the port again to March 2027. The Switch 2 version is now set to arrive about a year after the game's original planned release.
IO is approaching the final optimization phase
Vega said work on the Switch 2 version is going well and is getting closer to the final optimization and tuning stage. She also said the port had improved substantially compared with builds from earlier in the year.
Development could potentially be completed before March, but IO is keeping the March 2027 window rather than committing to an earlier launch. The studio wants to keep the same missions, encounters and overall gameplay structure found on other platforms. It is trying to avoid larger design cuts just to make the game work on Switch 2.
A stable 30fps is the current target

IO is targeting 30 frames per second in both docked and handheld modes. Vega said the team tested different frame-rate and resolution combinations, including separate targets for cinematic sequences, but was not satisfied with the results.
The current focus is therefore on delivering a consistent 30fps experience. Visual reductions are being made where IO believes they will have less effect on gameplay, such as lowering the detail of distant objects.
However, the studio does not want to reduce enemy or NPC counts because doing so would alter the experience itself. IO has also introduced a rendering technique called Meshlets to improve efficiency on Switch 2.
March 2027 remains the official release window
The delayed port will arrive after 007 First Light has already established itself on other platforms. IO announced in August that the game had sold four million copies across PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC during its first three months.
The Switch 2 version is still scheduled for March 2027. IO has not yet announced a specific release date. The port is now moving toward its final performance and tuning work before launch.
