Astarion mod adds a new Baldur’s Gate 3 ending scene

July 14, 2026·3 min read
Baldur’s Gate 3 players can now give Astarion a smoother ending through a new fan-made cutscene mod. The mod, called Follow Astarion - New Endgame Cutscene, lets players go after him during the game’s dock scene instead of watching him flee alone.

The mod was created by HyperspaceTowel and is available on Nexus Mods. It is not official Larian content, but it targets one of the most discussed emotional gaps in Astarion’s ending for players who romanced him.

The mod changes the docks ending

In Baldur’s Gate 3’s ending, a non-ascended Astarion loses the protection that let him walk in sunlight. Once the tadpole’s influence is gone, the sun starts burning him and he runs away from the docks.

The original scene can feel strange for players in a romance with him, because the moment moves on quickly while the party reacts from a distance. Follow Astarion adds a new scene where the player can leave the docks and run after him.

Players need the right ending setup

The mod only triggers under specific conditions. Players must be in a relationship with Astarion and physically present at the docks during the ending.

That means it will not play if the player character has already left for another ending path, such as going to Avernus or flying away with Lae’zel. The mod also needs to be installed before the narrator’s final “saviours of Baldur’s Gate” sequence begins.

It focuses on romance closure

The point of the mod is not to rewrite Astarion’s whole ending. It is a small addition designed to make the romance route feel more natural at the final moment.

For many players, Astarion’s story is built around survival, freedom and learning what connection means after years of abuse under Cazador. Letting a romanced character follow him after he runs from the sun gives that version of the story a softer landing.

BG3 modders keep filling small gaps

Baldur’s Gate 3 already received major official post-launch updates, including an expanded epilogue and more ending material. Larian also added official mod support before moving away from large new story expansions.

That has left modders to focus on smaller scenes, character edits and missing reactions. Astarion has been one of the most active targets for that work, partly because he remains one of the game’s most popular companions and partly because his romance route has several moments players still debate.

The cutscene is available now

Follow Astarion - New Endgame Cutscene is available now for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Nexus Mods. It is compatible with Patch 8 and can be installed during a playthrough, as long as it is added before the final ending sequence.

For players who felt Astarion’s dock scene ended too quickly, the mod gives them a simple fix. It does not change the main result of his story, but it gives romanced players one more moment with him before the epilogue.
