Baldur’s Gate 3 console mod gives Origin characters powerful new abilities
Unnerfed Origins, a community mod now in the curated console library, gives 10 Baldur’s Gate 3 companions passives tied to their pasts.
Baldur’s Gate 3 players on console can now give the game’s Origin characters and companions abilities inspired by the power they supposedly possessed before the events of Larian Studios’ RPG.
The changes come through Unnerfed Origins, a community-made mod that has joined Baldur’s Gate 3’s curated console library. It does not add new story scenes or alter companion quests, but it gives 10 familiar characters unique passive abilities designed around their established histories.
Astarion, Gale and Karlach get new advantages

Astarion receives Revenant Scourge, giving him advantage on saving throws against actions and spells used by undead enemies. Gale’s Archmage of Waterdeep is considerably more flexible, allowing an Illusion or Enchantment spell to be cast as either an action or bonus action.
Karlach gains Blood War Survivor, giving her advantage against Fiends and reflecting the years she spent fighting in Avernus. Lae’zel’s Interplanar Slayer provides a similar advantage against Aberrations, tying directly into her experience fighting mind flayers and other creatures connected to the Astral Plane.
Shadowheart receives Resilient Soul, which adds a scaling bonus to Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma saving throws. Wyll’s Monster Hunter instead gives him advantage against Monstrosities, fitting his reputation as the Blade of Frontiers.
Four non-Origin companions are upgraded too

The mod goes beyond the six main Origin companions. Halsin receives Savage Striker, an unarmed version of the Savage Attacker feat that can continue working with compatible Wild Shape forms.
Jaheira gains Aged Old Harper, granting proficiency with every weapon and an additional two points of Armor Class while concentrating on a spell. Minsc’s Rashemaar Berserker lets his attacks ignore physical resistances, giving him another way to pressure tougher enemies.
Minthara receives Psionic Retaliation. When she succeeds on a saving throw, the creature responsible can be slowed for two turns, giving her a defensive ability with an immediate consequence for attackers.
The mod makes companion backgrounds matter mechanically

Many of the characters enter Baldur’s Gate 3 with backgrounds suggesting they were considerably more powerful before being infected with mind flayer parasites. Gale was an accomplished archmage, Karlach survived years in the Blood War and Wyll had already built a reputation hunting dangerous creatures.
Unnerfed Origins translates some of that history into gameplay without simply increasing every character’s statistics. Each passive instead focuses on a specific part of their background, creating stronger differences between party members even when players respec them into different classes.
The abilities can also affect Origin playthroughs, giving players who choose Astarion, Gale, Lae’zel, Shadowheart, Karlach or Wyll as their protagonist an additional mechanical trait tied directly to that character.
This is community content rather than a new Larian update
Larian ended major development on Baldur’s Gate 3 with Patch 8 and said it would not add further narrative content or significant changes to its Origin characters. The studio has continued supporting community mods through its official Mod Manager and console curation process.
Unnerfed Origins was created by modder koboldJuno and was already available to PC players before reaching consoles. Its addition gives PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players another way to reshape existing campaigns without changing the stories that made the companions distinctive in the first place.
