Oathkeeper Returns in Game of Thrones: Winter Is Coming as Brienne's Exclusive Weapon

Game of Thrones: Winter Is Coming has brought Oathkeeper back into Westeros, this time as a weapon linked directly to Brienne. The Valyrian steel sword was added on August 13 as the exclusive weapon for Cavalry Commander Brienne, who joined the strategy game last year.
Players can also begin collecting fragments for Oathkeeper through the Ruins Treasure Hunt. The addition gives Brienne one of the weapons most associated with her story in Game of Thrones, with a history that begins with the destruction of House Stark's greatsword, Ice.
GTArcade added Oathkeeper as part of its August 13 update, almost 13 months after Cavalry Commander Brienne was introduced. The same update places Brienne's exclusive weapon fragments into the limited-time Ruins Treasure Hunt, giving players a way to work toward the new equipment.
The official notes do not provide a full breakdown of Oathkeeper's effects or how its progression changes Brienne in battle. The update instead confirms the weapon itself and where its fragments can be found.
Brienne arrived as a Cavalry Commander in July 2025. Giving her Oathkeeper now brings that version of the character closer to the one seen later in HBO's series, where the sword became a permanent part of her journey.
Oathkeeper's history is what gives the addition more weight than a normal equipment update. Tywin Lannister had Ice, the ancestral Valyrian steel greatsword of House Stark, melted down after Ned Stark's execution. The steel was reforged into two separate swords, one of which eventually became Oathkeeper.
Jaime Lannister later gave that sword to Brienne and sent her to find and protect Sansa Stark. Brienne chose the name Oathkeeper after accepting the mission, turning a weapon created from the destruction of a Stark heirloom into one used in service of the Stark family.
That connection makes Oathkeeper a natural match for Brienne even though the sword's origin is connected to one of House Stark's worst periods. Its return in Winter Is Coming focuses on the character who carried it for much of the later series rather than the circumstances under which it was created.
Oathkeeper was not the only new addition on August 13. GTArcade also introduced Varys as a new Greensight Commander. It added the Sacred March SS Marching Skin as well. Four new SS troop appearances are also available, based on the Winterfell Soldier, Brotherhood Without Banners, Beastmask Army, and Summer Isles Bowmen.
The update also announced Winterfell Trial, a limited-time event built around Personal Trial and Alliance Trial activities. GTArcade said the event would open separately after the update rather than becoming available immediately with the August 13 maintenance.
