Ghost Recon celebrates 25 years with a major Wildlands update

Ghost Recon Wildlands gets the free Last Rites update with a new mission, current-gen upgrades and the returning Predator crossover.

Ubisoft is celebrating Ghost Recon’s 25th anniversary with a free update for Ghost Recon Wildlands. The Last Rites update adds a new story mission, current-gen upgrades, more customization options, and the return of the Predator mission.

Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint are also free to play until August 10. PC players can claim Ghost Recon Future Soldier through Ubisoft Connect until August 13 and keep it permanently.

Last Rites adds a new Wildlands mission

The update introduces a standalone mission called Last Rites, which sends players after a cult leader known as La Llorona. It can be started directly from the main menu without completing the Wildlands campaign first.

The mission takes players back to Bolivia for a darker, more focused story. It is the first new narrative content added to Wildlands in years.

Wildlands gets current-gen improvements

Players on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S can now run Wildlands at up to 4K resolution and 60 FPS. The update also improves responsiveness, lighting, shadows, and draw distance.

The upgrade gives players a better way to revisit the 2017 game on newer consoles. Wildlands previously relied on its older console versions through backward compatibility.

The Predator mission returns

Last Rites also brings back the Predator crossover mission, which was removed after Ubisoft’s licensing agreement expired. Players can once again travel to Caimanes Province and hunt the Predator during the campaign.

Ubisoft has also expanded customization settings. Players can adjust enemy behavior, damage, weapon restrictions, friendly fire, weather, difficulty, HUD options, and other mission rules.

Future Soldier is free on PC

Ghost Recon Future Soldier can be claimed for free through Ubisoft Connect until August 13. Once added to an account, the 2012 tactical shooter stays in the player’s library after the promotion ends.

Ubisoft is also offering discounts of up to 95% across the Ghost Recon series. The anniversary promotions cover several games from across the franchise.

No new Ghost Recon game was announced

The original Ghost Recon launched in 2001 and later expanded through Advanced Warfighter, Future Soldier, Wildlands, and Breakpoint. Ubisoft did not use the anniversary celebration to reveal a new entry.

For existing players, Last Rites is the main addition. The update is available now as a free download for Ghost Recon Wildlands owners.
