Hayfever Drops $14.99 Price and Goes Free to Play on Steam

Hayfever dropped its price on Steam on August 21 and is now available as a free-to-play game, giving PC players access to Pixadome's 2020 precision platformer without paying for it.

Valve's store currently lists Hayfever as Free To Play with no promotional deadline attached. An earlier Steam listing showed the game at $14.99, making this a change to how the game is sold rather than a free weekend or short-term giveaway.

Hayfever originally launched on Steam on February 24, 2020 as a paid indie release. The current store page has replaced the purchase option with a Play Game button and now categorizes the title under Free To Play alongside its Adventure and Indie genres.

There is no end date shown for the free access on Steam. That is an important distinction for players because temporary promotions usually specify when access or the ability to claim a game will end. In this case, Steam currently presents Hayfever as a free-to-play title rather than a discounted paid game.

The store page also shows a Very Positive overall user rating, with 91% of 61 reviews marked positive at the time of writing.

Hayfever follows Thomas, a mailman trying to recover letters he lost while completing his route. Thomas suffers from severe allergies, but the game turns those reactions into the abilities players use to navigate its levels.

Different allergens change how Thomas moves. Regular pollen lets him build up a sneeze that can launch him through the air, while smog causes him to swell up like a balloon. Nuts are another part of the allergy-based system, although the Steam description deliberately leaves their effect unexplained.

Those allergies form the core of the platforming rather than serving only as part of Thomas's story. Players use the different reactions to move through hazards and recover letters scattered throughout the stages.

Pixadome built Hayfever around four main worlds themed after the seasons of the year. Across those worlds are 140 levels and 240 collectibles, giving players a substantial amount of platforming content alongside the main allergy mechanics.

Collecting letters ties directly into Thomas's job and provides another objective beyond reaching the end of each stage. Steam also mentions a possible secret world among the game's features, although the store description does not reveal exactly how players can reach it.

The Steam version includes 30 achievements, single-player support, Family Sharing, and interface and subtitle support across 12 languages.
