Milo Enters Steam Early Access October 29 With Four-Player Horde Survival

September 28, 2026·3 min read

The initial build launches with Survivor as its only playable class and no local split-screen. Extracted rats feed into upgrades through Milo's Traang Arcade.

Milo will enter Steam Early Access on October 29, bringing one-to-four-player co-op horde survival to a World War-era nightmare filled with cultists, period weapons and corpse-eating rats.

Developed by rat cream games and published by Yarrawah Interactive, the FPS combines escalating enemy waves with an extraction loop that lets players carry rescued rats into an arcade between runs.

Rats turn Milo's horde loop into more than wave survival

Players can tackle Milo alone or with up to three other people as cultists attack in repeated waves. Its arsenal includes weapons such as the Kar98, M1 Garand, PPSH-41 and M1911, while stackable buffs allow different builds to develop during a run.

The rats following the player are tied directly into progression. Fallen enemies can feed the growing group and charge an ability that detonates corpses, but surviving waves is only part of the loop.

Players eventually have to decide when to extract with the rats they have collected. Successful runs lead to Traang, Milo's arcade, where tickets earned through arcade activities can be spent on upgrades before returning to the battlefield. Other systems include the Cream Machine, special wave rules and global leaderboards.

Although Milo is being designed around three classes, only Survivor will be playable when Early Access begins. Loyalist and Apostate are named as the other classes but will not be included in the October launch build.

The initial version is expected to include the core survival and extraction loop, solo and supported co-op play, its World War-era weapons, rat collection, Traang Arcade and special wave conditions. Local split-screen co-op will not be available at the start of Early Access.

Developer Spencer Sharp currently expects the game to remain in Early Access for around two years. Planned additions include more maps, weapons, enemy types, wave rules, arcade content, rat customization and progression systems, alongside accessibility, localization, visual and performance improvements.

Steam does not currently list a price for the October Early Access release. Sharp says he plans to raise the game's price when it eventually leaves Early Access.

The old demo was removed because Milo had changed too much

Milo previously had a Steam demo, but Sharp disabled it on August 3 when announcing the October 29 release date.

He said months of development had substantially changed the game's performance, mechanics and overall structure, leaving the older demo behind the version being prepared for Early Access. Maintaining that separate build was also taking time away from finishing the game.

The decision followed a longer period of reworking Milo around player feedback. Sharp had previously acknowledged problems with an earlier demo and said its performance and gameplay loop did not meet his expectations, prompting changes to how the rats, progression and wider survival systems fit together.

The outdated demo is no longer available, but Steam currently allows players to request access to the ongoing Milo playtest ahead of the Early Access release.
