Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble opens pre-registration on mobile

July 16, 2026·3 min read
Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble has received its first official gameplay details, with PlayStation opening pre-registration worldwide on the App Store and Google Play. The new game is a free-to-play mobile arena shooter built around multiplayer battles, familiar weapons and characters from the Ratchet & Clank universe.

The game is not a new PS5 platformer from Insomniac Games. Ranger Rumble is being developed by Oh BiBi in collaboration with PlayStation and Insomniac, and it is aimed at iOS and Android players.

Ranger Rumble is a mobile arena shooter

Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble turns the series into a real-time multiplayer shooter for phones and tablets. Players will pick a hero, use oversized weapons and fight in quick online matches designed around mobile play.

The game keeps the series’ focus on loud gadgets and cartoon sci-fi combat, but the structure is very different from Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Instead of a single-player adventure, Ranger Rumble is built around team battles and seasonal multiplayer content.

Players can pre-register now

Pre-registration is now live worldwide through the App Store and Google Play. PlayStation is also running a community rewards campaign tied to sign-ups.

One of the main pre-registration rewards is a Clank Suit skin for Widget. The campaign gives players a reason to register before launch, while also giving PlayStation a way to measure early interest in the series’ move to mobile.

The official Ranger Rumble site says players who pre-register can receive updates, early access opportunities and future beta invites. The game is not available everywhere yet, but PlayStation says more regions will follow.

Familiar weapons and heroes return

Ranger Rumble is bringing back several pieces of Ratchet & Clank’s identity. The game features explosive weapons, recognizable characters, colorful arenas and fast combat built around the series’ exaggerated style.

The Google Play listing also points to a seasonal roadmap with new weapons, new heroes, new maps, events, competitive rankings and themed rewards planned after launch. That puts Ranger Rumble closer to a live-service mobile shooter than a one-off spin-off.

It is not the mainline sequel fans expected

The reveal may divide Ratchet & Clank fans. The last major entry, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, launched on PlayStation 5 in 2021 before later coming to PC. Since then, fans have been waiting for another full console game.

Ranger Rumble does not fill that same role. It is a mobile multiplayer project, not a mainline single-player adventure. Still, it is the first new Ratchet & Clank game to get a public push in years, and it keeps the franchise active while Insomniac remains busy with other PlayStation projects.

Launch timing is still unclear

PlayStation has not announced a final global release date for Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble. The game is listed for iOS and Android, with pre-registration open now and more testing expected before wider launch.

For players, the practical update is simple. Ratchet & Clank is returning through a free-to-play mobile shooter, pre-registration is live, and Ranger Rumble will show whether the series’ weapons, humor and sci-fi chaos can work in short competitive matches.
