Red Dead Redemption 2 mod adds a Shadow of Mordor-style nemesis system
October 20, 2026·3 min read
Red Dead Redemption 2's enRAGE mod adds persistent NPC rivalries, memorable injuries, revenge encounters and faction wars inspired by Shadow of Mordor.
A new Red Dead Redemption 2 mod is turning ordinary NPC encounters into long-running rivalries by giving characters memories, personalities and grudges that can follow Arthur Morgan across the map.
Called enRAGE, the early-access mod was released on Nexus Mods by creator nicklovin99. Its central idea resembles the Nemesis system from Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, but it also adds faction conflicts, persistent injuries and changing relationships across Rockstar’s open world.
Almost any NPC can become Arthur’s nemesis

Characters affected by enRAGE receive names, temperaments and individual histories rather than behaving like disposable strangers. Their attitude toward Arthur changes depending on what he does to them.
Robbing, insulting, attacking or stealing from someone increases hostility, while greetings and other friendly interactions can reduce it. Once anger reaches a certain level, an NPC can become a nemesis and later seek Arthur out again.
Masks also affect the system. Characters who never see Arthur’s face may not know who attacked them, while removing a disguise in front of witnesses can expose his identity.
Enemies can survive and remember previous fights
Nemeses do not necessarily disappear after losing a confrontation. Injured characters can survive and return later carrying visible consequences from earlier encounters.
Someone shot in a previous fight might reappear with a scar, limp or damaged arm. Serious injuries can also leave NPCs recovering at doctors or saloons before they return to the world.
Deaths may affect other characters as well. Friends and relatives can learn that someone has been killed, with some grieving and others potentially seeking revenge.
Factions can fight without the player

enRAGE also introduces a faction simulation involving eight outlaw groups and the U.S. Army. Factions have leaders, officers, camps, treasuries, territory and supply networks that continue operating even when Arthur is not involved.
Conflicts can develop into wars featuring roadblocks, front lines and battles around the map. Arthur can interfere by killing officers, stealing money or destroying supplies, potentially weakening one side.
Towns also track their own opinion of Arthur. Helping strangers, showing mercy or dealing with criminals can improve local reputation, while hostile actions can push communities against him.
The mod remains in early access
The current version is still unfinished, and the creator warns that bugs may occur. The aim is to make its NPC memories and faction systems feel like a natural extension of Red Dead Redemption 2 rather than a separate layer.
Each save maintains its own history of nemeses, wars and relationships. Installation requires ScriptHookRDR2 and ScriptHookRDR2DotNet V2, meaning enRAGE is currently limited to the PC version of the game.
