Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War Are Coming to Switch 2
The Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle brings both Monolith open-world games to Nintendo hardware for the first time. Their major expansions are included.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition and Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition are coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on September 30 as part of the Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle.
Published by Aspyr, the bundle brings both of Monolith Productions' open-world Middle-earth games to a Nintendo platform for the first time, with their major expansions included. No resolution or frame-rate targets have been announced for either Switch 2 version.
Both Shadow games are returning with their expansions
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition includes the Guardians of the Flaming Eye Warband mission, the Lord of the Hunt and The Bright Lord story missions, along with additional Warband missions, runes and character skins.
Shadow of War Definitive Edition includes the Blade of Galadriel and Desolation of Mordor story expansions, as well as the Slaughter Tribe and Outlaw Tribe Nemesis expansions. The Switch 2 version is optimized for offline play, with the Garrison available without an internet connection. However, Online Conquests, Vendettas, Fight Pits, Chests, and Training Orders are not available in this release.
Both games are built around the Nemesis System, which creates individual Orc enemies that can remember previous encounters with the player and develop into recurring rivals. Shadow of War expanded the system with recruitable followers, armies and fortress battles.
Including the complete editions means the Switch 2 releases will arrive with content that was originally added after each game's initial launch rather than only bringing over their base campaigns. Aspyr is also offering the bundle for $34.99 during the preorder period, a 50% discount from its $69.99 base price through launch. Both games will also be available to purchase separately on Switch 2.
Nintendo has not detailed how the games will perform on Switch 2
Nintendo's current listing confirms support for handheld, tabletop and TV modes, along with touchscreen functionality.
Performance details remain absent from the store page. There are currently no confirmed resolution or frame-rate targets for either Shadow of Mordor or Shadow of War on Switch 2, so it is not yet clear how the two ports will compare with their versions on other platforms.
Aspyr is continuing to bring older Lord of the Rings games back
The Shadow games follow another recent Middle-earth re-release from Aspyr. The Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition arrived on Switch 2 in August, bringing the 2011 action RPG back to a current Nintendo platform with its three-character campaign and co-op support.
The Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle extends that run with two considerably larger open-world games from the franchise. Shadow of Mordor originally introduced the Nemesis System in 2014, while Shadow of War expanded its rivalries and army-building systems when it followed in 2017.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition and Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition will both join the Switch 2 library when the Middle-earth: Shadow Bundle launches on September 30.
