Shrek 2 Remastered officially announced with GTA 6 parody trailer
October 21, 2026·3 min read
Shrek 2 Remastered launches November 10 with upgraded visuals, online four-player co-op, Photo Mode and a GTA 6-inspired announcement trailer.
Aspyr has officially announced Shrek 2 Remastered, bringing the 2004 action-adventure game back with upgraded visuals, new features and expanded four-player co-op. The remaster launches on November 10 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The reveal arrived during the October 20 ID@Xbox Showcase after the game appeared early on the Microsoft Store several days beforehand. Aspyr leaned into the timing with an announcement trailer styled as a parody of Grand Theft Auto VI, which launches just nine days later on November 19.
The GTA 6 parody makes the release timing part of the joke

The trailer opens with neon-heavy imagery and presentation deliberately reminiscent of Rockstar’s GTA 6 marketing before revealing Shrek and the rest of the cast. It also plays with the idea that players have been waiting for an enormous November release, only for the announcement to turn out to be Shrek 2 Remastered.
That joke works particularly well because the two games are arriving so close together. Rather than moving away from the crowded GTA 6 launch window, Aspyr is openly acknowledging the comparison and using it as part of the remaster’s marketing.
Four-player co-op now works online
Shrek 2 Remastered retains the original game’s team-based action, with players taking control of Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and other characters while fighting enemies and solving environmental puzzles. Characters have different abilities, and the remaster now lets players swap heroes during play across all supported platforms.
The biggest multiplayer addition is online co-op for up to four players. Aspyr is also supporting local four-player play and mixed sessions that combine couch and online players, expanding on the cooperative design that helped the original game build a following.
Aspyr is rebuilding the presentation

The remaster includes improved textures, an updated user interface, enhanced cutscenes and support for higher-resolution presentation. Store listings describe the game as supporting 4K visuals on compatible hardware, while the core levels still follow the journey from Shrek’s swamp through Far Far Away to Fiona’s castle.
Aspyr is also adding a Photo Mode and a Cheats Menu. The latter gives players access to unlockable cheats, while Photo Mode provides a modern way to capture characters and environments that originally appeared more than two decades ago.
Shrek 2 returns more than 20 years after the original
The original Shrek 2 game launched in 2004 alongside DreamWorks Animation’s film, with versions appearing across PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube and PC. Its mixture of combat, puzzles and cooperative character swapping made it one of the more recognizable movie tie-in games from that generation.
Shrek 2 Remastered is available to preorder for $29.99, with a temporary 10% discount reducing the digital price to $26.99 on supported storefronts. The November 10 release gives players just over a week with Far Far Away before Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on November 19.
