01Overview
The Elder Scrolls: Arena is a first-person fantasy RPG developed by Bethesda Softworks and the first game in The Elder Scrolls series. Set across the continent of Tamriel, the story begins after Imperial battlemage Jagar Tharn imprisons Emperor Uriel Septim VII in another dimension and takes his place on the throne. Players create a character and travel across Tamriel in search of the eight pieces of the Staff of Chaos, which are needed to defeat Tharn and rescue the emperor. The journey leads through cities, wilderness areas and large dungeons spread across the different provinces. Combat takes place in real time from a first-person perspective, while character progression is shaped by class, equipment, spells and experience. The game also includes optional quests and exploration outside the main storyline.
