01Overview
Assassin’s Creed II is an open-world action-adventure game about power, revenge, and conspiracy during the Italian Renaissance. It follows Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a young Florentine nobleman whose family is betrayed as part of a wider Templar plot. His pursuit of those responsible takes him through Florence, Tuscany, Romagna, and Venice as he learns the ways of the Assassins and works with historical figures including Leonardo da Vinci. A modern-day storyline follows Desmond Miles using the Animus to relive Ezio’s memories. Players cross rooftops, streets, and canals using parkour, swimming, and boats while completing story missions and optional activities. Ezio can fight with swords, daggers, throwing knives, and weapons taken from enemies, or assassinate targets with dual Hidden Blades, poison, and a concealed firearm. Smoke bombs, hired courtesans, thieves, and mercenaries can create distractions or help during an escape. A notoriety system makes guards more alert after public crimes, but wanted posters, heralds, and corrupt officials provide ways to reduce attention. The Auditore villa in Monteriggioni serves as a headquarters that can be renovated to unlock shops and generate income. Additional activities include assassination contracts, races, secret tombs, treasure hunting, and environmental puzzles hidden throughout the cities.
