01Overview
Assassin’s Creed III is an open-world action-adventure game set primarily in 18th-century Colonial America during the American Revolution. The story follows two playable ancestors across several decades. Haytham Kenway is a British Templar operating during the French and Indian War, while his half-Kanien’kehá:ka son Ratonhnhaké:ton, also known as Connor, later becomes an Assassin. Connor works to protect his people and dismantle the colonial Templar network as the colonies move toward independence. A modern-day narrative follows Desmond Miles using the Animus to relive these memories and prevent a global catastrophe. Gameplay spans Boston, New York City, and a large wilderness Frontier, combining free-running, stealth, and combat with tomahawks, muskets, bows, rope darts, and Hidden Blades. Connor can climb trees, hide in vegetation, hunt animals, and track targets through seasonal environments, with deep snow slowing movement. Naval missions place him at the helm of the Aquila, where players steer, fire cannons, and upgrade the warship. Homestead missions recruit settlers and artisans, opening crafting and trading systems that send goods through land and naval convoys. Liberation activities also weaken Templar control in city districts and recruit new Assassins who can assist Connor during missions.
