01Overview
Halo: Combat Evolved is a first-person shooter developed by Bungie and the first game in the Halo series. Players control the supersoldier Master Chief after the UNSC Pillar of Autumn crash-lands on a mysterious ringworld while fleeing the Covenant. The campaign combines large outdoor battles with tighter interior combat, using a mix of human and alien weapons. Master Chief can also drive vehicles such as the Warthog and Scorpion tank, while rechargeable shields encourage players to move between aggressive attacks and brief retreats. As the campaign progresses, the conflict expands beyond the Covenant when the parasitic Flood is discovered beneath the ring. Halo: Combat Evolved also includes local multiplayer, with modes such as Slayer and Capture the Flag helping establish the series as a major console shooter.
