Final Fantasy 14 plans two WoW-inspired housing updates
July 27, 2026·3 min read
Final Fantasy 14 will receive two large housing updates during the Patch 8.X series. Producer and director Naoki Yoshida revealed the plans at the Berlin Fan Festival after trying World of Warcraft’s recently added housing system.
Yoshida praised Blizzard’s work and said it encouraged the Final Fantasy 14 team to review its own housing features. Square Enix has explained the first update, but the second remains under wraps.
Housing Interface Will Be Easier To Use

The first update will overhaul Final Fantasy 14’s housing interface. Yoshida admitted that the current tools are technical and difficult for casual players to understand.
The new interface is intended to make decorating easier without removing the detailed options used by experienced housing designers. Players should be able to build elaborate interiors without relying as heavily on complicated placement methods or unofficial guides.
Square Enix has not shown the revised interface yet. Its final features and release date will be shared once development is further along.

A Second Housing Update Is Also Planned
The second overhaul is still in the planning stage, and Yoshida did not reveal what it will change. He suggested that it could arrive before the interface update, depending on how development progresses.
Yoshida also described it as one of the most requested changes from players. That has led to speculation that it could address housing availability, but Square Enix has not confirmed that connection.
Final Fantasy 14’s limited housing plots are distributed through a lottery system. Demand often exceeds the number of available homes, leaving many players unable to buy a personal house.
World Of Warcraft Inspired The Changes

Yoshida said Final Fantasy 14’s team has long respected the developers behind World of Warcraft. Blizzard previously looked at Final Fantasy 14 while creating its own housing system, with the goal of improving on features found in other MMOs.
After playing World of Warcraft’s housing content, Yoshida called it “amazing” and described it as useful research. That experience led his team to reconsider how Final Fantasy 14 handles decorating and access.
The upcoming updates will not copy World of Warcraft directly. Square Enix is instead using Blizzard’s work as a reference while improving systems built around Final Fantasy 14’s existing housing communities.
Updates Will Arrive During Patch 8.X
Both housing overhauls are planned for the Patch 8.X series, which begins with the Evercold expansion. Evercold launches in January 2027 and starts Final Fantasy 14’s next major update cycle.
Neither housing update has a confirmed patch number or release date. Square Enix will reveal the second overhaul once its plans are ready, while work continues on the redesigned housing interface.
