Abandoned returns to PlayStation Store with 2027 release window

Blue Box Game Studios' long-delayed survival horror game Abandoned has resurfaced on the PlayStation Store with a 2027 release window. The PlayStation 5 exclusive was originally announced in 2021 but has remained unreleased following years of delays, missed announcements and uncertainty surrounding its development.

The updated listing allows players to add the game to their wishlists. However, Blue Box has not officially announced a new release date, and its website still lists Abandoned as TBA.

The PlayStation Store currently identifies Abandoned as an upcoming PS5 game scheduled for 2027. Its description remains brief, presenting the project as a survival horror shooter focused on realism.

The listing also retains Blue Box's original plan to release the project in three parts. These include the Realtime Experience application, a standalone Prologue chapter and the complete game. According to the store page, Abandoned will support single-player offline gameplay, Remote Play and DualSense controller features. However, it does not provide a specific launch date or explain whether the planned release structure has changed.

The listing's return has attracted attention, but it does not establish how far development has progressed. Blue Box has not released new gameplay footage or provided an updated production schedule alongside the store changes.

Abandoned was first revealed through the PlayStation Blog in April 2021, with an initial release window of late 2021. The game was introduced as a first-person survival horror experience following Jason Longfield, a man who wakes up in a mysterious forest after being kidnapped.

The developers originally promised realistic survival mechanics, including slower weapon handling and reduced shooting accuracy when the protagonist became exhausted or frightened. Blue Box also promoted the game's planned use of PS5 hardware, including DualSense feedback and 3D audio.

However, development soon encountered problems. The studio delayed its Realtime Experience application multiple times, while the promised gameplay demonstrations failed to provide the substantial footage players expected. Blue Box later acknowledged production difficulties and said the project's direction had changed during development. A standalone Prologue was planned for 2022, but it never received a public release.

Abandoned also became associated with widespread speculation involving Hideo Kojima and the Silent Hill franchise. Some players believed Blue Box was secretly connected to Kojima Productions, pointing to similarities in promotional imagery and other supposed clues.

Blue Box repeatedly denied those claims, while studio founder Hasan Kahraman publicly stated that he was not working with Kojima. No credible evidence has established a connection between the developer and the Metal Gear Solid creator. The speculation eventually became a major part of the game's public identity, drawing attention away from its limited gameplay demonstrations and repeated delays.

Despite the updated PlayStation Store listing, several details remain unresolved. Blue Box has not announced whether the Prologue will still launch separately or when players might receive another gameplay demonstration.

The developer's official website continues to identify Abandoned as a project in development, with its release date marked TBA. No recent announcement on the site confirms the 2027 window displayed by PlayStation. Abandoned remains available to wishlist on PS5, but the store listing is currently the only clear indication of a possible 2027 release.
