God of War Laufey Finally Gets February 2027 Release Date

July 27, 2026·4 min read

Faye's first game now has a confirmed release date, giving players a clear idea of when they can expect to play it. God of War Laufey will launch for PS5 on February 16, 2027, bringing Santa Monica Studio's new lead into the spotlight only months after her adventure was first shown. The date makes the wait much shorter than many players expected.

The announcement came during San Diego Comic-Con, where the studio also confirmed that the game can already be added to PlayStation Store wishlists. Pre-orders, pricing, and editions are still being kept for later, but a physical disc version is planned alongside the digital release.

Faye's Story Begins After Her Funeral

The story starts after the funeral seen at the beginning of God of War (2018), when Faye wakes in a strange afterlife called the Everywhen. The plans she left behind to protect Kratos and Atreus are now in danger, forcing her to find a way home through a place filled with gods from several mythologies.

This is not being presented as a simple prequel that fills in old gaps. Santa Monica Studio describes it as the next main chapter in the series, with Faye's actions continuing the wider timeline. New players can follow the story on its own, although the Norse games will give more weight to the family she is trying to save.

Faye will travel with Phranque, a curious cosmic cube voiced by Jack Quaid, and Rue, an enchanted ribbon guardian played by Perlina Lau. Their journey brings them into conflict with figures such as Sekhmet and Begtse, while the broken flow of magic turns the Everywhen into something closer to a prison than a peaceful afterlife.

Faye Brings a Faster Combat Style

Kratos fights with weight and force, but Faye is built around speed, control, and constant movement. Her combat mixes the closer camera and detailed encounters of the Norse games with some of the quicker movement from the Greek era, allowing her to move between the ground and air without stopping an attack.

Her main weapon is a powerful sword guarded by Rue, giving her a different rhythm from the Leviathan Axe or Blades of Chaos. Giant magic adds another layer by letting Faye tear a soul from an enemy's body, attack it directly, or knock it into another target to extend a combo.

The first gameplay reveal showed enough to make the February date believable, including exploration, companions, large enemies, and long combat sequences. The bigger questions now surround progression, weapon upgrades, optional areas, and how open the Everywhen will be once players move beyond the carefully chosen sections used in the reveal.

February Is a Very Busy Month for New Game Releases

The game is coming out during a very busy month for major new releases. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is scheduled for February 12, Persona 4 Revival follows on February 18, and Fable arrives on February 23. Players interested in action games and RPGs could face three expensive choices within eleven days.

The God of War name gives Faye a strong position, but the tight schedule still puts pressure on every part of the launch. A clear idea of the game's size will help players decide whether this is a shorter side story or a full adventure built to stand beside the recent Kratos games.

Santa Monica Studio still needs to reveal the price, editions, pre-order bonuses, accessibility options, and final storage requirements. The next showing should spend less time proving Faye can fight and more time explaining how her journey is structured, because the release date has already moved the conversation from surprise to planning.
