Helldivers 2 Liberty Day Free Rifle Overshadowed by Anti-Cheat Launch Problems
Helldivers 2's free Liberty Day rifle arrives as some PC players remain locked out by startup issues following the Easy Anti-Cheat transition.
Arrowhead Game Studios celebrated Liberty Day in Helldivers 2 on October 26, 2026, with a free assault rifle and special in-game decorations. However, some PC players were unable to join the celebrations after the game's recent switch to Easy Anti-Cheat caused launch problems.
The issues began following the October 20 update, which replaced the previous GameGuard anti-cheat system. Arrowhead has acknowledged the problems and released troubleshooting instructions while working on a more complete fix.
Easy Anti-Cheat update prevents some PC players from launching Helldivers 2

Update 7.2.0 introduced Easy Anti-Cheat as part of Arrowhead's efforts to strengthen protection against cheating. The developer said its previous GameGuard implementation had not been effective enough, particularly against modifications that give players unfair advantages.
Following the change, some PC players reported startup errors, crashes, and warnings about software or drivers that prevented the game from opening. Others found themselves unable to reach the main menu despite previously running the game without problems.
Arrowhead had warned that the transition could affect unofficial mods, including cosmetic changes that do not provide gameplay advantages. However, the reported launch problems have also affected players who say they were not using mods. The developer has not disclosed how many players are affected.
Arrowhead provides temporary fixes while investigating launch failures

Arrowhead published official troubleshooting guidance on October 26, acknowledging that some players could no longer launch Helldivers 2 after the anti-cheat transition.
The studio recommends removing leftover mod files, including components associated with ReShade and OptiScaler. Players should also clear the game's AppData folder and remove remaining GameGuard files that could interfere with Easy Anti-Cheat.
Other recommended steps include updating drivers, restarting the computer, and verifying the game's installation files through Steam.
If the initial steps fail, Arrowhead advises reinstalling certain game files and contacting support with crash information. The developer says these measures can resolve common problems but is still working on a more complete solution.
Liberty Day rewards active players with the Liberator Legacy rifle
The main reward for Liberty Day 2026 is the AR-23L Liberator Legacy, a free assault rifle inspired by weapons used during the First Galactic War.
Arrowhead scheduled the weapon's distribution for the end of the October 26 celebrations. All players who had played Helldivers 2 at least once since September 26, 2026, were eligible to receive it. Completing special missions was not required.
The event also introduced temporary Super Destroyer decorations, including banners, rugs, and party supplies. Community activities included Minidivers, Adopt-a-SEAF, Oath of Enlistment, and Raise the Flag, with several hosted through the official Discord server.
Although Liberty Day has ended, players affected by the launch problems can still qualify for the rifle if they met the earlier activity requirement.
Arrowhead's October 27 support guidance continues to describe the troubleshooting steps as temporary measures. The studio has not announced when its more complete anti-cheat fix will be available.
