Horizon Forbidden West returns to PS Plus after two years away

October 20, 2026·3 min read

Horizon Forbidden West returns to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium on October 20 after leaving in 2024, bringing the PS4 and PS5 base game back.

Horizon Forbidden West is returning to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog on October 20, more than two years after Sony removed the action RPG from the subscription service.

Both the PS4 and PS5 versions will be available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members. Sony is describing the addition as a PlayStation Plus re-release, bringing Aloy’s second main adventure back alongside October’s other catalog games.

Sony originally added Horizon Forbidden West to the Game Catalog in February 2023, around one year after Guerrilla released it. Its arrival gave Extra and Premium subscribers relatively early access to one of PlayStation’s biggest first-party PS4 and PS5 releases.

That access ended in September 2024, when the game left the catalog alongside titles including Marvel’s Midnight Suns, NieR Replicant and Alien: Isolation. The removal stood out because Guerrilla is owned by Sony and Horizon Forbidden West is published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Game Catalog titles differ from the monthly PlayStation Plus games because subscribers only retain access while those titles remain in the rotating Extra and Premium library.

Aloy’s sequel returns on October 20

Sony is now bringing the base game back to both PS4 and PS5. Horizon Forbidden West follows Aloy as she travels west in search of a way to stop a spreading ecological threat while encountering new tribes and increasingly dangerous machines.

The October listing does not include the PS5-only Burning Shores expansion. Sony specifically lists Horizon Forbidden West rather than the Complete Edition, meaning subscribers interested in the additional storyline will still need separate access to the expansion.

October adds several other major games

Horizon Forbidden West is joined by several other notable additions. Mafia: The Old Country is coming to PS5, while co-op shooter Mycopunk launches into PlayStation Plus on October 20.

Other additions include The Midnight Walk, Poppy Playtime: Chapter 2, Tales of Arise – Beyond the Dawn Edition and Monster Energy Supercross 25. Premium members are also receiving Dino Crisis 2 and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition.

The return restores a major first-party game

Bringing Horizon Forbidden West back gives Extra and Premium members access again after an absence of just over two years. It also puts the game alongside Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, which joined the Game Catalog earlier in 2026.

Sony still rotates first-party releases in and out of the service rather than guaranteeing permanent availability. The October 20 return does not change that policy, but it restores one of PlayStation’s biggest PS5-era games to the subscription library.
