L.A. Noire 2 Rumour Claims Rockstar Could Return to the Series After GTA 6

A resurfaced rumour claims Rockstar Games could follow Grand Theft Auto 6 with a sequel to L.A. Noire, although there is still no official confirmation that the project exists.

The claim traces back to an anonymous 2023 post that was later preserved and circulated on GTAForums. It alleges that a new L.A. Noire was in very early development at the time, with San Francisco, the Zodiac Killer and a possible 2030 release all mentioned. Rockstar and Take-Two have not announced a sequel or confirmed any of those details.

According to the 2023 claim, Rockstar planned to move the series away from 1940s Los Angeles and build the sequel around San Francisco.

The rumoured story would reportedly involve the Zodiac Killer, whose murders and coded letters became one of California's most notorious unsolved criminal cases. No protagonist, exact time period or wider plot details were provided, leaving it unclear whether the historical case would form the main investigation or simply provide part of the setting.

The same post claimed Rockstar was considering bringing back facial-scanning technology with a much more ambitious implementation. Facial performances were central to that game's interrogation system, with players judging statements partly through the behaviour and expressions of suspects and witnesses.

None of those alleged sequel details have been supported by screenshots, development footage, job listings or an official Rockstar announcement.

The L.A. Noire 2 portion of the leak has attracted renewed attention because other claims associated with the same 2023 source have since been compared with information revealed about GTA 6.

Fans have pointed in particular to comments about character and relationship systems that appeared to resemble later details surrounding Rockstar's next Grand Theft Auto. That perceived track record has given the older L.A. Noire claim more attention than it received when first posted.

It does not, however, verify a separate project. A source being accurate about some elements of one game does not establish that every other claim in the same leak is correct, especially when the alleged sequel was described as being at a very early stage several years ago.

The suggested 2030 timing is similarly uncertain. Even if a project existed in 2023, its schedule, scope or development status could have changed significantly since then.

The original L.A. Noire launched in 2011, combining detective investigations, interrogations and open-world driving in 1947 Los Angeles. Team Bondi developed the game, while Rockstar published it and later brought updated versions to newer platforms.

Rockstar has continued selling and supporting the original game, but it has never formally announced a full sequel.

There is currently no confirmed developer, platform lineup, production status or release window for L.A. Noire 2. There is also no official indication that it will become Rockstar's next major release after Grand Theft Auto 6.

For now, the San Francisco setting, Zodiac Killer story and 2030 target remain parts of an unconfirmed 2023 rumour that has resurfaced because of renewed interest in the leaker's older GTA 6 claims.
