Take-Two secures another Discord subpoena in GTA 6 leak investigation

Take-Two Interactive has secured another subpoena targeting Discord as its investigation into the recent Grand Theft Auto VI leaks continues. The latest request seeks information connected to an additional Discord user, a previously identified user, and servers examined during the publisher's earlier efforts.

The subpoena was requested on August 28 and approved on September 1. Unlike earlier filings, much of the latest request is being kept out of public view as Take-Two tries to avoid alerting people it believes may be connected to the leaked material.

Take-Two told the court that it had identified one additional Discord user and obtained more identifying information about another account already examined during the investigation. The company also gathered further information about Discord servers covered by its first subpoena and is now seeking a more targeted set of records.

The publisher described the investigation as “rapidly evolving and ongoing.” The latest filing specifically seeks records connected to the newly identified user, another previously examined account, and Discord servers covered by the earlier subpoena.

The court approved the new request and allowed the subpoena to move forward. The sealed portions mean the identities involved and the exact records Take-Two is seeking are not publicly available.

Take-Two argued that revealing the full details could interfere with its investigation. The company said disclosure could warn alleged infringers about what it has discovered, potentially giving them time to delete or hide relevant evidence.

That approach differs from earlier filings, which exposed more information about the accounts, services, and servers being examined. The subpoena itself does not prove that any Discord user obtained or distributed the leaked GTA 6 material.

Take-Two began seeking account information after unreleased GTA 6 gameplay spread through Discord, X, YouTube, and other platforms in August. Earlier requests targeted Discord and Microsoft as the publisher attempted to identify people connected to the CyberLeek name and distribution of the footage.

The investigation later expanded to X and YouTube. Take-Two withdrew its YouTube subpoena request on August 28 after telling the court that it no longer needed the information originally sought.

The new Discord subpoena was requested on the same date that Take-Two withdrew its YouTube request. The court approved the Discord subpoena on September 1.
