Mario Kart World Free Update Adds 10 Classic SNES Tracks

Mario Kart World has added 10 courses based on tracks from the original Super Mario Kart as part of a new free update for Nintendo Switch 2.

The update also adds two Knockout Tour routes, Propeller Rally and Turnip Rally, while expanding online rooms with a new Spectator Mode. The classic SNES courses can be selected in VS Race, Time Trials, Online Play, and Wireless Play.

The new courses come from the 1992 SNES game and include Mario Circuit 1, 2, and 3, Ghost Valley 1, 2, and 3, Choco Island 1 and 2, Vanilla Lake 1, and Koopa Beach 1.

Rather than appearing as completely separate destinations, Nintendo has tied them to existing areas in Mario Kart World. The three Mario Circuit tracks sit under Mario Circuit, the Ghost Valley layouts are grouped together, and the remaining courses are attached to locations including Choco Mountain, Sky-High Sundae, and Koopa Beach.

The SNES courses also bring back ? Panels in place of the usual floating Item Boxes, with racers collecting items by driving over them.

Knockout Tour has grown with two additional routes called Propeller Rally and Turnip Rally.

Both become available after players have participated in one of the existing rallies. They join Drill Rally and Boomerang Rally, expanding the number of routes available in the elimination mode.

Knockout Tour starts with 24 racers and removes players at checkpoints as the race moves across connected sections of the world. The two new rallies add more full routes to that structure rather than simply placing another individual course into the rotation.

Nintendo has also introduced Spectator Mode for online play, allowing players to join a room without taking part in the race.

Online and LAN rooms can now support up to 26 people, while the maximum number of active racers remains 24. Spectators can switch between camera views and follow the live rankings while a race is underway.

The update also adds individual lap times to Time Trials and makes several gameplay adjustments, including changes to item probabilities and the removal of wall riding around the edge of Ghost Valley.
