Muramasa: The Demon Blade Returns in 2027 With Expanded Remaster
The Demon Blade returns on February 4, 2027 as Muramasa: Revenant Blades, an expanded remaster featuring six stories, updated combat, enhanced visuals and its first PC release.
Vanillaware's classic action RPG Muramasa: The Demon Blade is returning on February 4, 2027, as Muramasa: Revenant Blades. The expanded remaster will launch on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, marking Vanillaware's first PC release.
Originally released for the Wii in 2009, the game later received an expanded PlayStation Vita version called Muramasa: Rebirth in 2013. The upcoming release builds on that version with enhanced visuals, updated combat, all previously released story content, and English voice acting for the first time.
All six Muramasa stories are included in the new release

Muramasa: Revenant Blades combines the main adventure from Muramasa: Rebirth with its four Genroku Legends DLC stories.
The original campaign follows Momohime and Kisuke, two characters whose journeys unfold in a supernatural version of Japan's Genroku period. Their stories revolve around powerful cursed swords, demons, and conflicts involving the legendary swordsmith Muramasa.
The additional campaigns feature Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru, and Rajaki. Each has a separate storyline and fighting style, offering different approaches to the game's side-scrolling combat.
All six stories will be available from the beginning, allowing players to experience them in any order. Previously, the four additional campaigns were distributed as downloadable content for the PlayStation Vita release.
Combat improvements come alongside a Classic Mode

Players can chain regular attacks into combos, use dashes and jumps to move between enemies, and parry incoming strikes. Properly timed defenses can also deflect projectiles.
Character progression has been expanded through sword forging and skill mastery. Momohime and Kisuke can forge more than 100 swords, while the four additional protagonists develop their abilities through training.
The updated system also allows players to master techniques and assign up to three skills for ground and aerial combat. These can be switched during battles, giving players more flexibility when fighting different enemies.
For returning fans, the remaster includes a Classic Mode that preserves the PlayStation Vita versions' original gameplay while retaining the enhanced visuals.
The presentation is receiving similar attention. Vanillaware's hand-painted environments, character artwork, and animations have been enhanced to support resolutions up to 4K on compatible platforms. A gallery, Character Viewer, and Replay Mode are also included.
Muramasa makes its PC debut on February 4
The February 4 release will bring Muramasa to modern PlayStation and Nintendo systems while making a Vanillaware-developed game officially available on PC for the first time.
Physical preorders are already available in North America. The Standard Edition costs $49.99 on PS5 and Switch, while the Switch 2 version costs $59.99. Marvelous has confirmed that the Switch 2 edition includes the complete game on its cartridge.
Limited Editions are also available, featuring a physical copy, art book, soundtrack CD, and decorative folding screen. Pricing for the digital editions has not yet been announced.
Although Muramasa: Revenant Blades includes substantial gameplay and presentation improvements, Marvelous describes it as an expanded revival of Muramasa: Rebirth rather than a ground-up remake.
