Squad and Gas Station Simulator Are Free to Play on Steam Until September 28

Steam users can play Squad and Gas Station Simulator for free until September 28 as part of two limited-time Free Weekend promotions.

Both offers provide access to the full base games rather than separate demos, allowing players to try them without paying while the promotion is active. The games are not free to keep, so continued access after the deadline requires a purchase.

The pair covers very different experiences, with Squad focused on large-scale tactical multiplayer and Gas Station Simulator built around restoring and managing a roadside business.

Squad is a tactical first-person shooter built around large multiplayer battles, communication, and coordinated team play.

Matches support up to 100 players and combine infantry combat with vehicles, fortifications, and a command structure that encourages squads to work together rather than operate as individual players. Communication is split across local, squad, and leadership channels, making voice coordination a central part of how teams organize attacks and defenses.

Offworld released the full version of Squad in 2020 after several years in Early Access, and the game has continued receiving new factions, maps, vehicles, and other updates since launch.

The current Steam promotion gives new players access to the same base game during the free period rather than limiting them to a reduced trial version.

Gas Station Simulator takes a much slower approach, starting players with an abandoned gas station that needs to be restored before it can become a functioning business.

Players repair and decorate the property, stock products, serve customers, manage fuel supplies, and invest their earnings into new services and upgrades. The station gradually expands as more systems are unlocked, giving the game a mixture of hands-on tasks and broader business management.

Developer DRAGO entertainment originally released the game in 2021 and has expanded it with additional content since then. The Free Weekend provides access to the base game, making the promotion an opportunity to try the full management loop before deciding whether to buy it.

Steam Free Weekends provide temporary access to the base game rather than permanently adding a playable license to a player's account.

That means players can use the games normally while the promotions are active, but continued access requires a purchase once the Free Weekends end. Because Steam uses the same base-game app for Free Weekend access, players are not downloading separate demo versions.

Both Squad and Gas Station Simulator remain free to play until September 28 at 10 a.m. PT.

Both games are also discounted during the promotion. Squad is 50% off, with its Weekend Deal continuing until October 1, while Gas Station Simulator is 55% off through September 28.
