Ed Boon Shuts Down Injustice 3 Playtesting Rumours

NetherRealm Studios chief creative officer Ed Boon has directly rejected recent claims that Injustice 3 is already undergoing external playtesting.

The speculation followed a playtest listing for an unreleased AAA 2D fighting game in Culver City, California, which led to speculation that the project could be Injustice 3. When asked whether NetherRealm was currently testing Injustice 3, Mortal Kombat 13, or Mortal Kombat 9, Boon replied that the claims were "all false."

His response shuts down claims that Injustice 3 is the game currently being tested externally, but Boon stopped short of saying that the sequel itself is not in development.

He called that claim "100% false" before asking for the next rumour, which led into the discussion surrounding the reported Injustice 3 testing.

Neither NetherRealm nor Insomniac has announced a fighting game collaboration, and Boon's response leaves little ambiguity around that particular claim.

The more important distinction came after Boon's testing denial. He added that a game not currently being tested externally does not necessarily mean it is not in development.

That comment does not confirm Injustice 3. Boon did not identify which project NetherRealm is working on or suggest that any of the games mentioned in the discussion are definitely in production.
