Subnautica 2 “Adaptive Measures” Update Is Out Now

July 9, 2026·4 min read
Subnautica 2 players now have the game’s first major Early Access update, and it focuses on small problems that can quickly frustrate players. Adaptive Measures is out now, and it brings comfort settings, smoother movement, better creature reactions, and plenty of fixes.

This is not a big update with a new region. It is the kind of patch that makes the current version easier to play while the game is still growing.

For an Early Access survival game, that is important. Players are already spending hours building bases, exploring wrecks, testing multiplayer, and figuring out how dangerous the ocean really is.

FOV and sprinting are the easy wins

The FOV slider is one of the most useful additions in the update. Players can now adjust the view from the settings menu, which should help anyone who felt the default camera was too narrow.

Moving on land feels smoother now. Players can sprint while walking on the surface or inside a base, with a new control option added for it.

These are simple changes, but they help a lot in a game built around repeated trips. Moving around a base, checking storage, and heading back outside should feel less stiff now.

Creature encounters should feel fairer

Adaptive Measures also change how creatures respond when players defend themselves. Many creatures now react more clearly after being hit with the Survival Multitool, then flee instead of feeling like they ignored the hit.

The update also improves the Sonic Resonator, making it work better than before. It can now stun many creatures for a short time, giving players a better way to create space without turning Subnautica 2 into a combat-heavy game.

Blight creatures have been adjusted too, especially around Angel Combs. Their shift from passive to aggressive should be easier to read, which should make attacks feel less sudden.

Biomods have a better path now

This update also improves Biomod progression by giving players a clearer path to follow. It adds two new Biolabs, with one located in Coral Gardens and the other in Axum Ruins.

Players can now unlock six Biomods from Biolabs instead of four. Passive Biomod slots can also be opened by scanning creatures with the Bioscanner.

The game now shows how many scans are needed for each slot, which makes the system easier to follow. Biomods are meant to help players adapt, so the route to unlocking them needed to feel stronger.

Bases and wrecks get practical fixes

The base building has been cleaned up in several areas. The Vehicle Dock and Fabricator should now be easier to place, with better feedback when something is blocking placement.

A new storage buildable has also been added, and it does not count toward nearby crafting systems. That should help players separate stored items from materials they want recipes to use.

Wrecks have also been improved with more traversal and oxygen puzzles, better interiors, and better rewards. These are not flashy changes, but they should make exploration feel less rough.

Bigger features are still coming later

Adaptive Measures also fixes crashes, performance problems, UI issues, audio bugs, stuck fish, scan problems, and several multiplayer issues. Audiologs no longer auto-play for everyone in multiplayer, which should make shared exploration less messy.

This update does not include the bigger multiplayer features that many players are waiting for. Proximity chat and player revives are planned for update 1.2, while a larger Early Access 2 update is expected to bring a new region, vehicles, and more story content.

For now, Adaptive Measures gives Subnautica 2 a stronger foundation for future updates. The update does not change the whole game, but it makes the current ocean easier to survive, explore, and return to.
