10 biggest RPGs coming in 2027
Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Fable, Persona 4 Revival, EXODUS, Pokémon and more make 2027 a packed year for RPG fans.
If you are an RPG fan who was planning to work through 2027 one game at a time, the first few months are already making that difficult. Persona 4 Revival and Fable are currently scheduled just five days apart in February, while Exodus and Final Fantasy VII Revelation arrive on consecutive days in April. Not exactly games you finish over a weekend.
And there is plenty more coming later in the year. Kingdom Hearts IV finally has a release window, Pokémon is bringing its next mainline games exclusively to Switch 2, and Clockwork Revolution continues to look particularly interesting with the way player decisions can change its world.
2027 is shaping up to be a very busy year for RPG fans, and these are the games we are looking forward to most.
10. Stranger Than Heaven

Stranger Than Heaven takes Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio somewhere quite different from its usual modern-city crime stories. It follows Makoto Daito across fifty years of Japanese history and five different cities, while also charting his rise through the entertainment business.
The combat is changing quite a bit too. Attacks from the left and right sides of Makoto's body are controlled separately, so fights are built more around combining individual strikes than simply chaining familiar brawler combos. Getting knocked down can also leave you defending from the ground until enough stamina returns to stand back up.
It looks more deliberate and demanding than the studio's usual street fights, and probably the kind of system that will take a little time to get used to. Stranger Than Heaven launches January 15 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
9. The Expanse: Osiris Reborn

If you have been missing squad-based science fiction RPGs, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is probably already on your radar. You create an Earther, Martian or Belter captain, build a crew and get pulled into a conspiracy that starts during the lockdown on Eros.
Only two companions join you directly in combat, but the rest of the crew can still help from elsewhere by disabling systems or distracting enemies. That should make the ship feel more involved in missions instead of turning half the cast into background characters.
Your choices can also damage those relationships, which should matter when the people you rely on are the same ones supporting you in the field. Osiris Reborn is due in spring 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
8. Xenoblade Genesis

Nintendo is calling Xenoblade Genesis a new beginning, which makes the Switch 2 RPG particularly interesting if you have never found time for the existing trilogy. Monolith Soft is moving to a new world called Leukos, with a new cast and a different mythology built around warriors known as Vesselai.
They use a power called Anima, while crystals can strengthen that power and also record parts of a person's life. That gives the setting an interesting link between combat, memory and personal history without leaning too heavily on what came before.
The combat is still the biggest unknown. Monolith Soft has shown very little of how battles actually work, so we still do not know how different this will feel from the previous Xenoblade games. Xenoblade Genesis is currently scheduled for 2027 on Switch 2.
7. Clockwork Revolution

Clockwork Revolution has been appearing at Xbox showcases since 2023, but we finally know that inXile's next RPG is coming in 2027. It is also the studio's first full Xbox Game Studios release and its first AAA first-person RPG.
You play as Morgan Vanette, who discovers that Avalon's ruler Lady Ironwood has been using time travel to rewrite the city's history. Once Morgan gets hold of the same technology, you can interfere with the past yourself and return to an Avalon changed by those decisions. Even members of your own gang can end up living completely different lives.
After Wasteland 3, seeing inXile apply that kind of choice and consequence to a much larger first-person RPG is probably the most interesting part. Clockwork Revolution launches on Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2027, with Game Pass from day one.
6. Exodus

Exodus finally has a release date after spending the last few years as one of the more intriguing sci-fi RPGs on the horizon. Archetype Entertainment confirmed that Jun Aslan's journey begins on April 7, 2027.
You play as a Traveler searching ancient ruins for technology that could save your homeworld, with a crew joining you along the way. The twist is what happens while you are gone. Travel near light speed means only days may pass for Jun while months or even years move on back home.
Friends can grow older, relationships can change and entire parts of people's lives can happen without you. Exodus launches on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
5. Persona 4 Revival

Persona 4 Revival is bringing Inaba back in February, and Atlus is doing more than simply rebuilding the original murder mystery for modern hardware. The remake expands the quieter side of the game too, with new events and fully voiced Social Links alongside the turn-based battles inside the television world.
One of the nicer additions is Local Tours. Exploring Inaba with Aika Nakamura lets you find old photographs, which can then unlock scenes from your friends' pasts when you share them.
For returning players, that should make revisiting the Investigation Team feel a little less familiar without changing what made Persona 4 work in the first place. Persona 4 Revival launches February 18 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with Switch 2 following on May 20.
4. Kingdom Hearts IV

Kingdom Hearts IV finally has a release window, and Square Enix has started to show a little more of what Sora's life in Quadratum will actually look like. The modern city is a big change from the usual fantasy-heavy settings, while Disney worlds are still part of the journey, with Pixar's Coco now confirmed.
Sora will not be handling everything alone this time either. Donald, Goofy and Mickey are all playable as they search for information about him, giving the story more time away from Sora and his Keyblade battles.
Square Enix currently has Kingdom Hearts IV scheduled for late 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2, although there is still no exact release date.
3. PokÉmon Winds and PokÉmon Waves

Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are taking the next mainline games fully onto Switch 2, with Game Freak building the new region around islands, open water and the Pokémon living across those different environments.
You start by choosing between Browt, Pombon and Gecqua before heading out across the archipelago, but the reveal has focused just as much on how Pokémon fit into the world around you. Partners can help overcome natural obstacles, while different species appear to be tied more closely to particular habitats.
That could suit an island setting particularly well, especially if exploring the ocean becomes as important as travelling across land. Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are scheduled exclusively for Switch 2 in 2027.
2. Fable

After years of waiting, Fable finally has a release date, and Playground Games seems to be putting just as much attention into life around Albion as it is into fighting through it.
You can still use swords, ranged weapons and magic, but towns now remember what you actually do there. Actions need to be witnessed before they affect your reputation, and different people can form their own opinions of you. That can influence shop prices, relationships and even who wants anything to do with you when you return.
It feels like a natural extension of the social side that always gave Fable much of its personality. Fable launches February 23 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
1. Final Fantasy VII Revelation

Final Fantasy VII Revelation has the difficult job of finishing a remake trilogy that has spent two games expanding a story many players already knew almost by heart.
The Highwind finally opens up airship travel, while Square Enix is also giving the party more freedom away from combat. You can switch characters while exploring and choose who takes the lead on certain quests, which can change how those events play out. The new FITS system adds another layer in battle by giving characters specialised roles through outfits such as Knight and Summoner.
All of that should make the final journey feel broader, but the ending will inevitably get most of the attention after everything Remake and Rebirth changed along the way. Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches April 8.
