Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies VR Brings Phoenix Wright to Meta Quest in 2027

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies VR is coming to Meta Quest headsets and Meta VR Glasses in 2027, adapting the fifth mainline Ace Attorney game for the series' first VR release.

The project is being developed and published by AMATA K.K. under license from Capcom. It adapts the story of 2013's Dual Destinies rather than continuing the series with a new mainline entry.

The VR version once again follows Phoenix Wright, Apollo Justice and Athena Cykes as they investigate cases and defend clients during the "Dark Age of the Law" storyline.

AMATA is changing how those investigations and trials are presented. Crime scenes can be explored as 3D environments, with hand tracking and motion controls used to examine evidence. Players can also point at witnesses, present evidence with their hands and use voice activation to call out "Objection!" during courtroom sequences.

Controllers remain fully supported, so the hand-tracking and voice features are not required to play.

AMATA has announced versions for Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Meta VR Glasses. The game will be distributed through the Meta Horizon Store, while its price and exact 2027 release date have not been announced.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies originally released for Nintendo 3DS in 2013 and became the fifth mainline game in the series. It brought Phoenix Wright back to the courtroom alongside Apollo Justice and introduced Athena Cykes as another playable attorney.

The game received another modern release in 2024 as part of Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy. That collection includes Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, Dual Destinies and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice, along with two previously DLC-only Special Episodes.

The new VR edition therefore is not simply restoring an unavailable game. Its main change is the move to an interactive first-person presentation built around Meta's VR hardware.

AMATA describes Dual Destinies VR as the first virtual reality game in the Ace Attorney series. The game is designed as a single-player release, with the announcement listing an estimated playtime of 15 hours or more.

The project arrives more than a decade after Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice launched in 2016. Spirit of Justice remains the most recent mainline game to advance the series' story, and Capcom has not announced a seventh mainline entry. Dual Destinies VR instead adapts an existing game while introducing a new way to investigate cases and take part in courtroom sequences.
