Breath of the Wild VR mod adds a new way to use bows
August 10, 2026·2 min read
The BetterVR mod for Breath of the Wild adds physical bow drawing, improved movement and new controller support in version 0.9.20.
The unofficial BetterVR mod for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has received a new gameplay update. It adds physical bow drawing along with several fixes for movement and combat.
BetterVR is separate from Nintendo’s old Labo VR support. The PC mod runs the Wii U version through Cemu and adds tracked hands, room-scale movement, and motion-controlled weapons.
Bows can now be drawn by hand

The biggest addition changes how bows work in VR. Players can bring an arrow to the bowstring, hold the controller trigger, and physically pull their hand backwards to draw it.
Link’s hand and the arrow now follow the player’s movement during the animation. The aiming arc now appears only when the bow is nearly fully drawn.
Combat keeps getting more physical
The bow update builds on earlier changes to BetterVR’s combat. Previous versions added motion-based bow aiming and two-handed support for large swords and spears.
Two-handed attacks deal more damage, but the weapons can still be used with one hand. Players can also swing and stab with motion controls during combat.
Movement and riding have been improved

Version 0.9.20 fixes camera clipping while climbing beneath ceilings and overhangs. It also reduces unwanted camera movement when Link moves onto walls.
Other fixes improve horse-riding height, shield surfing, and weapon throwing in third-person mode. Pico Ultra and Pico Neo 3 controllers are now supported as well.
BetterVR is still in development
BetterVR first received a public release in December 2025 after several years of development. Crementif has continued releasing updates with new features and fixes since then.
Players need Windows, Cemu 2.6 or newer, an OpenXR-compatible headset, and a legal Wii U copy of Breath of the Wild. Version 0.9.20 is available now, while version 1.0 still has no release date.
