Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 Is Fixing XV2’s Biggest Mistake By Making Crossplay An Absolute Priority
June 26, 2026·3 min read
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 did almost everything an online anime RPG could do to stay alive. It kept adding characters, quests, raids, events, and balance updates for years. The one thing it never solved was the platform split.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is now aiming straight at that old problem. Producer Masayuki Hirano has said full crossplay across all systems is an “absolute priority” for the sequel, which is planned for 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Crossplay finally gives Xenoverse what it needed
The Xenoverse series is not only about picking famous Dragon Ball fighters. Its real hook is making a custom character, building a fighting style, and bringing that avatar into missions, hubs, raids, and online battles.
That setup never worked well because of platform barriers. A game built around custom fighters and shared online spaces should not make players choose between their friends and their preferred system.
Crossplay would make Xenoverse 3 feel healthier from the start. Raids would have more players, co-op missions would be easier to fill, and online fights would not depend as heavily on one platform’s population.

Xenoverse 2 set the bar for long support
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 launched in 2016 and kept going far longer than most licensed anime games. Its long life changed what fans expected from the sequel.
Players are not only looking for a bigger roster or sharper visuals. They expect years of updates, more missions, new transformations, fresh characters, and events that keep the game worth opening after launch month.
That kind of support works better when everyone can play together. If Bandai Namco wants Xenoverse 3 to last the same way, crossplay cannot feel like a late fix. It needs to be part of the online plan early.
Age 1000 gives the sequel room to move
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is set in Age 1000, a future era that moves the series beyond the history-fixing setup of the first two games. Players will explore a new version of West City and join the Great Saiyan Squad in a story built around new characters and future threats.
That setting opens up more possibilities for the sequel. The older games leaned heavily on familiar Dragon Ball moments, while Xenoverse 3 can push its custom hero into a less familiar part of the timeline.
The new era also gives Bandai Namco a better place to rethink the online side. If Age 1000 is meant to be a shared Dragon Ball world, players need to feel like they are entering the same space no matter where they play.
The launch details still matter
Hirano’s quote is the right one for fans to hear, but Bandai Namco still needs to explain how crossplay will work. Players need details on matchmaking, party invites, ranked play, raids, account linking, and whether every platform will be included from day one.
Those answers will decide how much the feature changes the game. Xenoverse 2 survived because its community stuck with it even when the online setup felt limited. Xenoverse 3 has a chance to start stronger by removing the biggest barrier first.
If Bandai Namco gets crossplay right, the sequel will not just have more players online. It will finally let the Xenoverse community feel like one community.
