Gears of War: E-Day Devs Tease 20th Anniversary Update and Gnasher Changes
The Coalition has detailed Gears of War: E-Day's first post-launch season, including a 20th anniversary celebration, Gnasher changes and more multiplayer tuning after the beta.
The Coalition has outlined the first stretch of post-launch support for Gears of War: E-Day, including a 20th anniversary celebration and several Gnasher changes based on feedback from the multiplayer beta.
Season 1 began alongside early access on October 1 and runs until December 1, with a two-week 20 Years of Gears event planned during the season and a special anniversary gift coming on November 7. The studio has also explained how E-Day changes Gnasher hipfire and confirmed further tuning ahead of the worldwide launch on October 6.
The 20th anniversary celebration starts during Season 1

Season 1: Emergence includes three limited-time events built around Halloween, 20 Years of Gears and Thanksgibbing. Each will run for two weeks and include its own Versus event mode, Horde Siege event mission and rewards. Versus Ranked will also go live on October 13, one week after the worldwide launch, giving players time to learn the maps, modes and multiplayer sandbox before competitive play begins.
The anniversary will then become the main theme of Season 2, called Legacy. The Coalition describes it as a celebration of the franchise's history, with content inspired by memorable moments from previous Gears games. Players will get the first anniversary reward before that season begins. The Coalition says everyone who plays E-Day will receive a special birthday gift on November 7, exactly 20 years after the original Gears of War launched on Xbox 360.
The studio has not revealed what the gift is yet.
Legacy will also introduce the reward tied to E-Day's version of the traditional Seriously achievement. Players who complete Dead Serious will receive several profile rewards alongside a Legendary Character skin, something The Coalition says has not previously been attached to the achievement.
E-Day changes how Gnasher hipfire decides whether a shot connects

The Gnasher was one of the main subjects of feedback during the August multiplayer beta, and The Coalition has now explained how E-Day handles one of the shotgun's longest-running aiming quirks.
Aiming down sights remains familiar. The shot comes from the camera position, which The Coalition says preserves the predictable behavior used throughout the series.
Hipfire works differently.
In Gears of War 2 through Gears 5, hipfire originated directly from the Gnasher's muzzle. That could create situations where the crosshair and on-screen presentation made a shot look accurate even though the weapon's physical position caused it to miss.
E-Day uses a hybrid system instead. When a player fires from the hip, the game checks both a camera-based trajectory and one originating from the muzzle, then uses the result that better matches what the player appears to be aiming at.
The Coalition says the goal is simple: shots that look like they should connect should do so more consistently. Beta feedback has led to additional tuning as well. The studio has increased Gnasher damage while aiming at longer range and made further improvements to hipfire consistency ahead of launch.
The Coalition is still adjusting multiplayer before launch
The Gnasher changes are part of a wider round of multiplayer tuning following the beta.
The Coalition has adjusted damage values across several weapons and made changes to strafing, cover movement and slide distance. Versus and Horde Siege have also received balance work, although the studio says it will continue watching player telemetry and feedback after release rather than treating the launch balance as final.
Some older Gears features will not make the initial release. Meat Shields, Chainsaw Duels, selected legacy weapons, Private Lobbies and leaderboards are among the features The Coalition says could not be completed while rebuilding E-Day's gameplay sandbox from scratch.
They have not been ruled out permanently, with The Coalition saying fan-favorite features could be revisited either through post-launch support or in a future Gears title.
For now, the immediate focus is on getting E-Day through its October 6 release with the Gnasher changes already in place, while the first anniversary content begins rolling out during Season 1.
