The Walking Dead has appeared in all kinds of games, but turning it into a side-scrolling brawler is a surprising choice. The Walking Dead: Streets of Survival launches on September 18, turning the All Out War storyline into an arcade fight through walkers and Saviors.
Odaclick Game Studio is building the game around Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and Michonne, with each survivor using familiar weapons and different combat abilities. A free Steam demo is already available, giving players an early chance to see whether this faster approach suits AMC's zombie series.

The campaign focuses on Rick's fight against Negan with more direct action. Alexandria, Hilltop, and the Sanctuary appear as stages, while walker-filled tunnels and ruined settlements fill out the journey. Players fight both human enemies and groups of zombies, making each battle more challenging.
Rick carries his magnum, Michonne relies on her katana, and Daryl brings his crossbow into battle. Combos, ranged attacks, dodges, finishers, and environmental hazards make up most of the fighting. Familiar enemies including Negan, Simon, Winslow, and the Well Walker return as bosses rather than simple background appearances.
The series is full of desperate close-range fights, sudden attacks, and groups being overwhelmed by numbers. These moments are turned into short arcade-style stages. This makes the game feel different from other survival games focused on scavenging and managing resources.

The Steam demo has received a Mostly Positive response so far, but hands-on impressions have been more mixed once the novelty wears off. The pixel-art style and controls have received some praise. However, players have criticized the simple enemies and fights that do not require much strategy.
Their weapons change how they attack, but the short preview does not make the two playthroughs feel dramatically different. The full campaign will need more unique characters and varied fights as it moves past the opening level.
Odaclick has made a brawler before with The Karate Kid: Street Rumble. So, the studio already has experience with this type of game. Streets of Survival looks heavier and bloodier, but better enemy variety and stronger bosses will be important if the campaign is going to stay interesting.
Streets of Survival is built as a single-player game, which immediately separates it from many modern side-scrolling brawlers. Co-op is a big part of what makes brawlers fun, especially when lots of enemies appear on screen. Here, Rick, Daryl, and Michonne are character choices rather than a team controlled by several players.
Different difficulty levels and tougher challenges should give players more reasons to replay the campaign. An Easy Mode is also available for anyone more interested in the characters and All Out War story than mastering every fight. Those options offer flexibility, although the combat itself will still need enough variety to support repeat runs.
With the September release confirmed, players won't have to rely on trailers to see if the game is worth playing. The free demo already shows the basic combat and pacing. The full campaign now needs to show that fighting through The Walking Dead's familiar locations can stay fun. It needs to offer more than just one short arcade-style stage.
