Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.5 adds dual-wielding alongside Edgerunners 2

CD Projekt Red is giving Cyberpunk 2077 another substantial free update alongside the arrival of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on Netflix. Update 2.5 launches on October 22 with anime-inspired content, cyberware customization and a new dual-wielding playstyle.

The update arrives just two days after all 10 episodes of Edgerunners 2 premiered on October 20. CD Projekt Red is calling it the Edgerunners 2 Update, continuing the connection between the RPG and Studio Trigger's animated series.

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Update 2.5 will introduce dual-wielding, potentially giving existing builds another way to approach combat. The studio describes it as a new “playstyle” rather than simply a cosmetic animation, although it has not yet explained which weapons can be combined or how the mechanic will work.

Cyberware customization is also being expanded, but the developer has kept the specifics under wraps ahead of a REDstreams presentation on October 21. The broadcast will provide a closer look at the update before CD Projekt Red publishes the complete patch notes.

Update 2.5 will also contain new items and other features, including content directly inspired by Edgerunners 2. Promotional artwork pairs V with Weak Kingsley from the anime, although CD Projekt Red has not yet revealed exactly how its new characters or story will connect to the game.

Unlike a direct continuation of David Martinez's story, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 follows an entirely new cast in Night City. The standalone 10-episode season centers on four new characters and tells a story built around revenge and redemption.

The timing echoes what CD Projekt Red did with the first Edgerunners season in 2022. Patch 1.6 arrived shortly before the anime and added related equipment, quests and other content while also introducing broader improvements such as the Wardrobe system.

This time, Update 2.5 already appears to extend beyond simple crossover items. Adding an entire dual-wielding playstyle and changing cyberware customization could have a much larger effect on existing character builds and combat.

The free update will release on October 22 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo Switch 2 players will receive Update 2.5 shortly afterward, although CD Projekt Red has not provided a separate release date for that version.

More details are scheduled to be revealed during REDstreams at 5 p.m. CEST on October 21, with official patch notes following the presentation. Until then, dual-wielding, cyberware customization and Edgerunners 2-inspired content are the main confirmed additions heading to Night City.
