Hookeye Confirms December 9 PC Release With Free Horror Demo on Steam

October 22, 2026·3 min read

Hookeye launches on Steam December 9, with a free demo introducing unsettling fishing mechanics, limited resources and a mysterious siren.

Hookeye, a psychological horror fishing game from indie developers Mallorian and FloralNoise, is set to launch on December 9, 2026, for PC via Steam. The developers have confirmed the release date alongside a new trailer and a free playable demo, giving players an early look at the game's unsettling fishing mechanics.

The short, story-driven horror game follows a fisherman obsessed with catching a mysterious siren beneath the ocean. It combines fishing, limited resources and psychological horror, using a handcrafted PS1-inspired visual style to explore themes of obsession, loss and sacrifice.

Mallorian and FloralNoise released the Hookeye demo on October 19, 2026, as part of Steam Next Fest. The demo allows players to experience the game's central fishing mechanics and psychological horror atmosphere before its full release.

The project was originally announced in September 2026 as the debut game from the US-based development duo. Mallorian handles the art direction, while FloralNoise is responsible for programming.

Rather than creating a traditional fishing simulator, the developers have built a short narrative experience where the player's actions are closely tied to the protagonist's growing obsession. The full game is scheduled to launch on Steam on December 9. No console versions or pricing details have been announced.

Every catch brings the fisherman closer to a mysterious siren

Hookeye takes place on a fog-covered dock off the California coast. Its protagonist, known as the Fisherman, refuses to leave despite having little more than a few beers, limited fishing equipment and an overwhelming desire to catch something extraordinary.

His ultimate target is a legendary siren calling from beneath the water. To reach it, players must catch fish and use them as bait to attract increasingly larger creatures. This creates a cycle of risk and reward. Each successful catch offers an opportunity to pursue something bigger, but players must decide whether sacrificing their current catch is worth the potential reward.

Hooks and bait are limited, making resource management an important part of the experience. As supplies run low, the fisherman must improvise with whatever remains to continue his pursuit. The developers have designed these mechanics around the story's central theme of sacrifice. The more determined the fisherman becomes, the more he is willing to risk for his next catch.

Talking fish and distorted perceptions drive Hookeye's psychological horror

As the fishing continues, the protagonist begins losing his grip on reality. His senses become increasingly unreliable, turning an ordinary activity into a disturbing psychological experience. The fish he catches also play a role in revealing the story. Some can speak and offer glimpses into the fisherman's past, gradually exposing the circumstances behind his obsession.

Rather than focusing on combat or conventional monster encounters, Hookeye builds its horror through the protagonist's decisions, the strange creatures beneath the water and the uncertainty surrounding what he experiences.

Its handcrafted PS1-inspired presentation reinforces that atmosphere with retro visuals and a gloomy coastal setting. The game uses its limited environment to keep attention on the fisherman and his increasingly desperate pursuit of the siren.

Hookeye launches on December 9, 2026, for PC through Steam, with the free demo available now.

It's the end of the line. Resist the madness and use questionable bait to just keep fishing. Sacrifice everything for a bigger catch. It has to be worth it.
