October 15, 2026·3 min read

Jiaohun's new trailer showcases masked figures, demons and supernatural mysteries in a Chinese town set in 1999. The psychological horror game launches in 2027.

Developer 12AM BLACKOUT has shared a new trailer for Jiaohun, its upcoming first-person psychological horror game, during IGN Fall Fan Fest 2026 on October 14. The footage offers another look at the game's disturbing setting, featuring masked figures, supernatural creatures and a mysterious god with an eye in its palm.

Set in a remote Chinese town in 1999, Jiaohun combines exploration, puzzles and psychological horror inspired by Chinese folklore. The game is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam in 2027.

The latest footage takes players through the abandoned buildings and unsettling surroundings of Fairy Town, a fictional settlement in China's Baishoi County. Its environments feature dark corridors, mysterious figures and supernatural imagery, including hands with eyes embedded in their palms.

The trailer also highlights the game's late-1990s setting through everyday objects such as pagers. These details contrast with the disturbing supernatural events unfolding throughout the town.

A nameless god appears to be connected to Fairy Town's downfall, although the developer has not fully explained its role. Players will need to investigate the abandoned settlement to uncover what happened to its residents.

A lost soul returns to uncover Fairy Town's downfall

Jiaohun takes place on December 31, 1999, as the town approaches the beginning of a new millennium. According to the game's official description, Fairy Town struggled to survive during a period of change. Its attempts to adapt ultimately failed, leaving behind a dark mystery.

Players control a wanderer who returns to the town after losing his soul. While searching for the scattered pieces of his spirit, he must investigate the settlement's history and discover the truth behind its downfall.

The story draws on Chinese folklore and explores obsession through themes of fear, desire, love and resentment. The developer connects these emotions to the supernatural forces haunting the town.

Exploration and puzzles drive Jiaohun's psychological horror

12AM BLACKOUT describes Jiaohun as a cinematic psychological horror experience built around exploration and storytelling. Players will investigate locations, solve puzzles and piece together information about Fairy Town's residents.

The game also hints at supernatural threats that players may need to escape while exploring. However, 12AM BLACKOUT has not explained how enemy encounters work or whether players can fight back.

The new footage follows Jiaohun's initial announcement on October 8, providing another look at the atmosphere and creatures players will encounter.

Jiaohun is already available to wishlist through Steam and the PlayStation Store. No exact release date or pricing has been announced.
