Marvel's Wolverine adds Scent Trail toggles for side content

Marvel’s Wolverine now lets players disable several Senses-based guides for optional content while keeping story-critical guidance enabled.

Insomniac Games has added new options to Marvel's Wolverine that let players disable several of the game's Senses-based guides while exploring optional content. Update 1.001.006 adds separate toggles for Whisky Bottle Scent Trails, Material Crate Audio Clues and Nightmare Door Roots. However, players still cannot completely disable Wolverine's Senses guidance, as Insomniac says story-critical Senses will continue to appear in the world.

Wolverine's enhanced senses are used throughout the game to direct Logan toward objectives, collectibles and other points of interest. Some of those guides can now be switched off individually.

Whisky Bottle Scent Trails lead players toward collectible bottles connected to Logan's memories. Material Crate Audio Clues help locate resources used for crafting, while Nightmare Door Roots point toward entrances to optional Nightmare challenges.

Players who would rather search for those activities themselves can now disable the corresponding assists in the settings. The change gives players more control over exploration without removing the Senses system entirely.

Story-critical Senses cannot be disabled

Insomniac has kept the guidance needed for the main story active regardless of the new settings. "Story-critical Senses will still appear in the world," the studio said in its patch notes.

That means the update does not provide a single option for turning off every visual or sensory guide. Players can reduce assistance around optional activities, but guidance considered necessary for story progression will remain visible. The new settings arrive after feedback about how frequently Scent Trails and other indicators appeared during exploration.

Insomniac had already adjusted the system in update 1.001.005. That hotfix reduced the opacity of Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators to make them less visually prominent.

At the time, the developer said it was also looking at ways to introduce toggleable options in a later update. Update 1.001.006 now delivers those controls for several types of optional content. The studio has not announced plans for a setting that removes story-related guidance as well.

The latest patch also fixes crashes and other bugs

The Senses options are joined by several technical fixes. Insomniac says the update addresses crashes reported through community feedback and crash logs.

It also fixes an issue that could leave players stuck while sliding down a tree during "The One That Got Away" mission. Photo Mode claws should now align correctly, while a rare problem that caused objects to turn white after extended play sessions has also been addressed.

Marvel's Wolverine launched for PlayStation 5 on September 15. Update 1.001.006 is available now, giving players more control over guidance for side content while keeping Senses required for the main story.
