EA Sports FC 27 Cover Star Is the Obvious Choice

July 24, 2026·4 min read

Kylian Mbappé is back on the cover of EA's football series, and this one is easy to understand. The Real Madrid forward fronts the Standard and Ultimate Editions of EA Sports FC 27 after a summer that ended with another World Cup Golden Boot and the tournament's all-time scoring record.

Jude Bellingham joins him on the limited Ultimate Plus Edition, giving EA a second Real Madrid star for its most expensive version. Mbappé remains the main face of the game, though, marking his first cover since FIFA 23 and his first since the series dropped the FIFA name.

Mbappé Returns at the Perfect Time

A PSG forward controls the ball during a night match as opposing players chase him inside a crowded stadium.

Mbappé previously appeared on FIFA 21, FIFA 22, and FIFA 23, when EA was presenting him as the player ready to lead football's next generation. Four years later, the story has changed. He is now France captain, Real Madrid's number 10, and one of the few players recognised almost everywhere the game is sold.

EA could have chosen a younger breakout name or kept building around a newer cover star, but Mbappé gives EA Sports FC 27 an easy link between the old FIFA years and the current brand. Long-time players already connect him with the series, while his move to Madrid gives the artwork a fresh look instead of repeating the Paris Saint-Germain era.

The choice also avoids forcing a marketing story that players may not believe. Mbappé has the club, the profile, and the style EA usually wants from a cover athlete. His speed, finishing, and direct attacking game have always matched the way the series sells its football, so the image feels natural rather than planned around a short run of form.

The World Cup Made the Choice Clear

Mbappé finished the 2026 World Cup with 10 goals, claimed the Golden Boot, and took his career total to 22. That moved him past Lionel Messi as the tournament's leading scorer and gave EA a cover reveal built around the biggest individual scoring story of the summer, even though France finished outside the final.

The announcement looks stronger than it would have a few months earlier. Cover athletes are usually selected well before the artwork becomes public, so EA likely did not know exactly how the tournament would end. Mbappé's record-breaking run gave the company a revelation that arrived while his goals were still fresh.

His wider career supports the decision too, which stops the cover from feeling tied to one tournament. Mbappé remains at the centre of Real Madrid and France's attacks, while his place among the sport's biggest names is no longer based on potential. EA is using a player at the peak of his fame, not waiting for him to become one.

EA Has Its Global Star Again

Recent covers have given EA room to move between different stars, but EA Sports FC 27 returns to the simplest possible approach. Mbappé is easy to recognise across football's biggest markets, which gives the game one clear image for stores, trailers, social media, and major launch events.

Bellingham's place on the Ultimate Plus cover adds another popular name without splitting the main message. The two are Real Madrid teammates, but their roles are different. Bellingham helps sell the limited premium edition, while Mbappé carries the standard artwork and the wider campaign across all three versions.

EA has also tied Mbappé directly to The Grounds, the new social football mode, where he appears as one of the mentors guiding created players. That makes the cover more than a photo placed on the box. His image runs through the game's main marketing, and after the summer he just had, EA did not need to look any further.
