Game Freak Announces Magical-Girl Laundry Game Ame Nochi Hare Onna
Game Freak has revealed Ame Nochi Hare Onna, a new free-to-play mobile game that combines magical girls with real-world weather data, battles, and a laundry system tied directly to progression.
The project is planned for iOS and Android in Japan this winter and is being directed and produced by Pokémon veteran Shigeru Ohmori. Game Freak is designing the game around a daily cycle where checking the forecast affects how players prepare for what happens next.
Real-world weather changes how players prepare

Ame Nochi Hare Onna uses weather information from Weathernews to bring real conditions into the game. Game Freak describes the system as more than a visual change. Players patrol areas under different conditions and need to account for the weather when choosing characters and preparing for combat.
The idea came from something much more ordinary. Ohmori said he regularly checked the weather before deciding whether to do laundry, which eventually led to the concept of turning that daily habit into part of a game.
That connection between real weather and in-game planning is one of the project's most unusual features. Instead of logging in and finding the same conditions every day, players are encouraged to pay attention to what is actually happening outside.
Battles and laundry form the main gameplay loop

The story follows girls known as Hare Onna, who can convert weather into magical power and use it to fight abnormal weather phenomena.
Each girl works with a Kumorin, a divine partner that allows her to transform and wear a special outfit called Haregi. Combat is turn-based, with players switching between Hare Onna and using weather magic powered by real-world forecast data.
Combat is only one part of the loop. Haregi become dirty during missions, which means players need to wash them before sending the characters back out again. Laundry therefore functions as an actual gameplay system rather than a joke attached to the premise. Patrols lead into battles, battles leave outfits dirty, and cleaning those outfits prepares the team for the next outing.
The result is a structure where weather, combat, and laundry all feed into one another instead of existing as unrelated features.

Shigeru Ohmori is leading Game Freak's unusual new project
Ohmori has worked on the Pokémon series for decades and has directed several mainline entries, making his involvement in Ame Nochi Hare Onna notable even though the new game has no connection to Pokémon.
The project instead gives him a chance to work with a very different structure, one built around mobile play, real-world weather, magical-girl characters, and everyday routines. Game Freak is developing the title with Chronogate, while the initial release is currently limited to Japan. No international version has been announced.
Ame Nochi Hare Onna will be free to play with optional in-app purchases when it launches for iOS and Android this winter.
